David Copperfield Robbed at Gunpoint

Quote:
Magician David Copperfield and two female assistants were robbed at gunpoint Sunday night after a performance in West Palm Beach, Fla.

*snip*

Daly and Volmut gave the robbers a purse containing 200 euros, $100, a passport, plane tickets and a cell phone, plus $400 in pocket money, according to a police report. But Copperfield, his statement says, turned his pockets inside out to show that they were empty – a sleight of hand by the master illusionist, who later showed police that his pockets were filled with cell phones, a wallet and a passport.

*snip*

As the assailants drove away, Copperfield and Daly took down their car's license plate numbers and called the police. Officers arrived on the scene and quickly captured the suspects, whom Copperfield and his staff later positively identified.

He should have then pickpocketed the robbers. That would have been awesome.

What he should of done is: Appear to hand his wallet over to the theif, than make it dissapear, than have the theif take his shoe off to find the theifs drivers licenes in the shoe. The theif would of been so stunned, Copperfield could of gotten away, or the Theif would of shot him. Either way, it's a win. Posted Image

While there are aspects of this story I find amusing, my mirth is tempered by the fact that I work (and park) two blocks from where this happened! Posted Image Also, one of my co-workers moonlights at that theater.

The funny thing is the Kravis is part of this major downtown gentrification and slum clearance project, but a block or two from the rebuilt shopping, dining and tourist area are derelict buildings, crumbling 50 year old government offices maintained on a shoe-string because new structures are "planned and approved" but constantly delayed, a ratty bus and train terminal and all of the winos, addicts and street people that go with such an area.

Copperfield got off easy. Posted Image

Joe

Why didn't he make the punks disappear? Posted Image He can make the statue of Liberty vanish but not a couple of assholes trying to rob him?

In all seriousness, he took a chance by doing that, if those guys were serious they could have pulled off a damn good trick of their own...they could have made his life disappear.

Yeah, he could have simply held up his hand and halted the bullets in mid-air like Neo in The Matrix.

......or he could simply avoid having to do this by making the gun dissappear. Posted Image

Wait John... what are you saying? David Copperfield doesn't have magic powers? How can that be true? He made a dove appear out of thin air.

I wonder if it was just outside the theater. Wouldn't he have some type of security there?
Bring back John Doe! Or at least resolve the cliff-hanger with a 2hr movie or as an extra on a dvd release.

Luckily for Copperfield and his assistants, someone had already made the thieves' brains disappear.
