I was reading a description for the upcoming movie "The Wild" when my daughter sees it too and I agreed when she said..."Isn't that Madagascar?".

Here is the description of the movie from www.comingsoon.net

Quote:
"The Wild" follows a teenage lion from the New York Zoo who gets accidentally shipped to Africa and freed. His friends at the zoo including an older lion, a giraffe, an anaconda, and a squirrel must unite to bring him back.

Bring back John Doe! Or at least resolve the cliff-hanger with a 2hr movie or as an extra on a dvd release.

I saw a trailer for this somewhere and thought the same thing.

Though I have to say, the animation is pretty nice. I like the stylized Madagascar look, but this shows good detail.

Yup.

Animals going from a zoo to the wild rainforrest safari - check!

Lion - check!

Giraffe - Check!

Funny Hippo? Well we get a funny Koala Bear.

Funny Penguins? Well we get funny Chameleons.

I have not seen it yet, is Madagascar a good movie?

If so then I can't complain about another one that is similar. My kids are too young, or is that too wild, to take to the movies( 3.5 and 1.5 years) right now. If/when they are older I won't complain about being ablt to take them to a saturday matinee for a movie that is similar to another one that came out recently.

With all the not-necessarily-good remakes of tv series and older movies coming out this may be a moot point.

Not really. The penguins are the only genuinely funny part of the movie and they don't have a lot of screen time.

Yeah, Madagascar was a disappointment after the funny trailers and a few rave reviews I read. There are many funny elements but the story drags. I also hated Chris Rock's grating vocal performance.
