Lists of Blu-ray & HD DVD Titles (Scheduled, Announced, Rumored, Wish List) (1 Viewer)

Several titles have already been announced, as well as some pre-order listings on retailer sites, and in the coming days we can expect several more titles to be announced for Blu-ray and possibly HD DVD as well.

I'll be making separate lists for scheduled, announced, and rumored titles coming out on either Blu-ray and/or HD DVD, and will add them to the next few posts. In addition, as I did with the Warner and Fox special edition series threads, I'll also include a wish list compiled from titles that people ask for in this thread.

In the meantime, if anyone hears of any news on titles, release dates, rumors, etc, please share it in this thread and I'll do my best to keep the lists updated.

Iwon't even consider a high-def format before the James Bond-movies is released

Well if it's Bond movies you want, then there is no question you want a Blu-Ray player, since unless HD-DVD buries Blu-Ray immediately, it's only the Blu-Ray format that will have it. Sony owns MGM which owns Bond. It's not even a remote possibility that we will not see Bond on the Blu-Ray format.

Sony made a point in it's press release that all future Bd new release titles will be day and date with the standard dvd- so it's pretty obvious when we will get Casino Royale '06 (early spring '07), but i wonder if thats also when we will get the Bond catalog titles.
it would make sense not to miss 2007 for some kind of promotion- so what i'm guessing is- the remastered DVDs will hit shortly before the theatrical premiere, and then the high def Bds will make a big splash 4- 6 months later.

Bridge On The River Kwai is about the only title i've seen so far that has me interested, but i can't help but wonder if Sony is just going to put out the same (pretty weak) transfer that is already on the dvd.

considering they would put out a superbit of an unrestored From Here To Eternity, i get the feeling that 3 or 4 yrs from now, we will be waiting for Bd remasters much in the same fashion we wait for dvd remasters today.

Universal is expected to announce support of Bd soon- so every studio will be releasing content on both formats.
there may be a lagtime between some studios porting over content from HD DVD to Bd, but i doubt we will see many 'exclusives' on HD DVD.
the format war is over- unless Bd implements a ton of restrictive copy protection nonsense that requires the consumer to jump thru hoops and install phone jacks just to watch a movie- then it might be a horse race again, but as of now, it looks like Bd is clearly the format that people should be paying more attention to.

I think it's a foregone conclusion that BD players will require some type of phone or broadband connection.

As much as I'd like to run right out and buy The Fifth Element (especially if they put back in the special effects technicians commentary track from the UK Region 2 DVD that was dropped from the US Region 1 DVD), I hesitate.

Won't these first discs be like the first DVDs - i.e. badly done? The visual quality of the "first batch" of DVDs are considered crap by today's standards. Will the same be true for these new format discs?

Ed, those are the HD DVD titles that were announced a year ago, right? Notice how the Paramount slate has shrunk substantially (they must have got burnt by the delay in HD DVD hardware).

There's also mention of Master and Commander, Ladder 49, Kill Bill, National Treasure, Pirates of the Caribbean and I Robot.

And for the umpteenth time: Blu-ray will not require any kind of connection for 'conventional use'. It may be if you want to acquire any kind of 'value-added' material (such as additional audio tracks or subtitles, for instance).

As someone else pointed out, there should first be a movie exclusive to the HD-DVD format before owning a universal player should even be considered. As we approach the launch of the formats, we will find out if this is even the case. If the studios backing HD-DVD all release every title on both formats, there will be no reason to even consider purchasing a HD-DVD player, nevermind a universal player.

Maybe Universal will stay exclusive, and thus truly make it a Universal player.

The only real scare we still have coming is finding out if Warner truly is going to stick with those blu laser DVD-9s AKA BD-9. A BD-9 makes even a single layer HD-DVD look spacious.

With the many times of Desperado being released I only pray that it would be the directors cut of the film for once.

Sweet, I've been holding out from buying an upconverting dvd player because I've been waiting for these HD formats to hit the market (that and I think my Panasonic RP-82 is a hell of a machine).

I want a lot more info on the DRM schemes employed by both... I cant wait to see Laurence of Arabia as gloriously as we saw it in that Blu Ray demo last year tho!
