WOOHOO Finally! Can't wait to get the B&W version

And for the record? I hate SONY! This means that the Black and White version will NOT be made available for stores such as Target, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. Sony Pictures Entertainment ... in one word ... sucks. Why? Because stores are going to only order the colorized version and I think many of you others can back me up on this as well. Who is going to buy the color version over the original unedited black and white epsiodes.

Actually, the news was official when I posted this thread (which was before TSoD posted that story). I like TSoD as much as the next guy, and while they posted more info than DVDActive, TSoD's posting of the news doesn't make it any more official than DVDActive's news.

For the record, I agree with Scott_J's idea, although not his actual words. It was official when Sony provided the info to journalists and retailers, even if that was days prior to the announce date. Unannounced is no less official!

Since DVDActive is a UK site, I can't help it if the announce date starts there prior to the time the announce date starts here.


Mark, Sony offers that B&W set to every retailer. It is the retailers who choose not to carry it. Pick a good one that carries deep stock and sells at a decent price - Best Buy in my mind - and write to them or call them and inform them that you want to find the B&W version of this release in a store near you on street date. If enough people tell them that, they will listen.

That must be a regional thing, as I saw the B&W Bewitched at Best Buy. I'll be buying the B&W Jeannie for sure. TV Land plays these episodes in the proper format, and I think the B&W image is gorgeous.

Just curious but why would anyone bother buying in a store when you can order online from amazon or deep discount? It's usually about 30% off with no tax or shipping and you get it delivered to your door? What advantage is there to having to drive to a store, pay tax, wait on a checkout line? And be at the mercy of what they stock. I think I've bought 1 DVD set in a store and that was in a place in LA where they have stuff for like 40 or 50% off.

There's no savings. Berst Buy stores and Target stores generally sell the sets for cheaper than online stores and I get discounts at both stores.

Plus, only about 10% of entertainment fans buy their DVD's online. There are too many people who get ripped off by online stores and they make you jump through shoops to return defective sets. Besides, I want to be able to go into a store to exchange it because I enjoy the challenge of that hunt for that DVD you're looking for.

B&W for me! I'm glad that they switched to filming in color with the second season, but I grew up watching the first season episodes in B&W and can't stand seeing it colorized. Good thing they're releasing both.

BB will usually have 1 - 3 releases a week on sale, and they sometimes match or beat Amazon's prices. Target may have one a week that does the same. Of course, if the title you want isn't on the B&M sale list that week, you're out of luck.

Both Amazon & DDD ship for free and don't charge me tax (the latter usually saves me at least $3 on a typical TV-DVD set).

What I do is this - I check the Weekly Roundup on Sunday morning. Every couple of weeks there is a B&M deal that beats Amazon or DDD by at least a couple of dollars, and that one goes on the list to be bought Tuesday. Everything else gets ordered from Amazon or DDD.

This method saved me serious bucks over the last year I have been using it. And about 80-90% of my TV sets ended up being bought online.

The switch of IDoJ from B&W to color in its 2nd season has a very personal significance for me. You see, my Mom was a huge fan of this show (the whole family enjoyed it, of course, but she LOVED it). When the 2nd season moved to color, that was the impetus for her to insist that my Dad finally go buy a color set.

I'll never forget the afternoon I came home from school, passed through the living room where the TV was on as usual, yelled "Hi" to my Mom and headed down the hall to my bedroom - but halfway there I did a classic double-take and ran back to the living room, because it had just registered that there was a new TV there and there were color images on that set!!

Of course, being a typical 8-year old boy, my biggest excitement was over being able to watch "Lost In Space" in color... (Both LiS & IDoJ switched to color for their 2nd seasons in the fall of 1966.)

So yeah, B&W S1 for me, no doubt. History must be respected.

The extras alone will be worth buying the set. So glad they're doing this. And everyone can rag on me if you want, but I'll be buying the set in color simply because I've only seen it in B&W. I want to see if the colorization is as good as on "Bewitched." And it makes the show seem more "new" since I'll be seeing it in a way I've never seen it before.

I agree about the colorizing making it seem "new", Elena. Where IDOJ is concerned I like the first season better colorized because I can't stand that Jeannie is supposed to be wearing a PINK harem outfit, smoking out of her bottle in PINK smoke, and Captain Nelson should be in a BLUE uniform with Captain Healey in a GREEN uniform but yet we're seeing it all in monochrome. IDOJ is a very colorful show so I think that colorizing it makes it more of an enjoyable experience to watch.

I will say, though, the problem with colorizing is that it's just guess work, it seems, on the part of the colorists. There are a few times where, being a huge Jeannie fan, I've seen still photos of certain costumes or items, or have seen them in later seasons, and they are colored wrong. For example, Tony's flight suit that he is wearing when he crash lands on the island in the first episode was a light blue, according to a still photo taken at that time that appears in Steve Cox's "Dreaming of Jeannie" book. But on the colorized episode they've done it orange, which is understandable, considering in the Second Season's first episode he crash lands on the same island (Jeannie wanted him to celebrate their anniversary) and he's wearing an orange flight suit.

But if you're not a, what shall I say, "detail oriented" fan:b , than it's not noticeable and the colorizing is actually very good.
