Hi Guys

My wife and I are talking about making a move to the US next year sometime possiblt to Michigan, so I'm hoping somebody out there can help with something!

How or where do I go to try and get a job over there?

Obviously I'll need to get a green card, but what are my best options?

To be honest, I haven't a clue on where to go, or what to do to get the ball rolling.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Adrian,

You're gonna love St. Patricks Day over here in the States!

I'm an analyst programmer - COBOL on both IBM Mainframe and Unix.

But at the moment I'm working as an Assembly Line operator - not a lot of programming jobs around here at the moment...

Yeah, Paddy's Day would definitely be an experience on that side of the pond! :)

My wife is looking forward to actual snow!

What is your visa situation? For example, is your wife coming over on a work visa, or just on a tourist visa?

Visa issues can be a real problem when trying to find work in the US, as pretty much any skilled labor job is going to require credentials. The best two ways to get those is to A) marry a US citizen (probably out for you :) ) or B) get hired by a firm BEFORE coming to the US and letting them do all the visa work and pay the necessary expenses for you.
