Perhaps the reason there is not yet a thread on this is because many of us were underwhelmed by the season premiere last night?

I thought "Bonfire of the Manatees" had its moments, but overall was a weak episode, especially for a season premiere, which is more high profile than most episodes. Still, I am in the camp that thinks this show has produced some strong work in the last two or three years and I look forward to the upcoming episodes this season.

I have always been a fan of the Simpsons. Last night's episode was just average to me.

I am starting to feel that after soooooo many years, it might be time for this show to wind down.

Or at least let the kids age a bit :)

I too was underwhelmed by last night's season opener. As stated above, there were some good moments. The couch gag was good as well as the use of Homer's house as a porn studio. I laughed harder at the preview for next week's episode. Hopefully that one will deliver on its promise.

You know what was a wierd coincedence, one of the characters(can't remember who) was reading Tom Clancy's "Op Center"... I had just finished reading that on Sunday afternoon.

Episodes centered on Marge don't tend to be that great. There's some good ones but her and Lisa tend to have weaker episodes than Homer and Bart (in my opinion anyway). The bizarre plot didn't really help this episode. Marge gets mad at Homer (again) and leaves him (again). She meets a guy who works with manatees and decides to help manatees too. Homer just happens to find her, battles guys on jet skis, and gets her back (again). How many of the sentences I just typed made sense? I know it's a cartoon but it did used to have a foot in reality:)

That being said, there was some funny lines which is what has kept me tuning in for the last couple of years.

As for the lack of a thread, I think alot of people might not have realized that the season started yet since for five years (?) or so, they haven't started until November.

I was wondering about that. When I saw that TiVo had recorded a new episode last night, I assumed it was an incorrectly flagged rerun! I thought they would start the new season with "Treehouse of Horror" again.

Also, reading the show summary in the guide also made me think it might be a rerun. ;)

I haven't seen it yet.

Yeah, the writters do seem to be repeating themselves.

How about when Homer said he was going to use the outhouse and his cousin ran after him, yelling "My recording studio!"

similar to when Homer was rooming with the gay couple and says he's going to bed...one of the guys says "He's sleeping in the pantry" and the other guy yells "My spices!"

Not only that, Grandpa uses the same line in one episode somewhere. He says he's going to the outhouse and Homer yells out "My tool shed!"

There hasn't been a good new episode in five years. Each new episode is worst than the last, prompting me to utter an all too familliar phrase.

"Worst episode ever!"

As usual, the first seven shows to air this season are holdovers from last season, so maybe that has something to do with it.

17 seasons! I wonder if they are going to shoot for 20 or 25? I have not seen a new episode in well over 10 years. Time sure does fly!

Does this mean that the Treehouse of Horror episode will actually air before I take down my Halloween decorations?

Oh come on, Blake. Sure it was pretty bad, but there can be only one "Worst Episode Ever".

Do you mean that literally or metaphorically? :D

Refresh my memory, how many first run episodes were shown last season? I don't recall any pre-emptions and I only remember the episode where Bart goes to a Catholic school being rescheduled due to the Pope's death.

Does this mean that seven episodes from this season will be pushed until the next one?
