Canada gets some good candy and potato chips (1 Viewer)

so we were in halifax last week and we wandered into a small grocery store.

in there i find several different flavors of Lays chips
And some candy bars of difference from down here in the states.

the chips.

ketchup
fries and gravy
smokey bacon
sea salt and pepper
all dressed (?)

so i go to the website

and also find

on another shelf i find different candy bars from nestle'
kit kat chunky max
kit kat chunky max w/ caramel
aero
smarties (like small m&m's)
coffee crisp

so i look on that web site and find
kit kat chunky max w/ peanut butter
kit kat dark choc
and ltd ed kit kat banana and orange.

so whats the deal?
i would lve to be able to buy many of those

i also saw sour green apple flavored Crush soda.

i started this to discuss candy and chips and other snacks that only canada seems to get.

No, the U.S. gets Smarties unless they were discontinued here recently. In Taiwan you can get chicken and seaweed flavored Ruffles and/or Lays, among others probably.

smarties in the usa are very small hockey puck shaped candy that are like small bottle cap type candy.
usually come in a roll wrapped in clear cellophane.

In India you can get Masala-spiced Lays. I guess Frito-Lay has a wide variety of spices that they toss on (depending on the point of sale).

This is similar to Coke (there are all sorts of wacky flavors worldwide). If you visit world of Cok (in Atlanta) you can try some of these flavors.

When I was up in Montreal for Fantasia, I was stunned at the quality junk food available. Banana Kit-Kats were great, and there were various kinds of Reese's Peanut Butter Cup that were only limited editions or otherwise not available in the US - crunchy, honey roasted, fudge, more peanut butter/more chocolate... And all we have right now is the sort of nasty white chocolate variety.


Plus, Crush Cream Soda. I absolutely love the Crush Cream Soda. It's hard enough to get Orange Crush in Boston, and Canada has this fantastic tonic?

I actually had some of those Sea Salt and Pepper chips recently here in Denver at a Subway. They were very good.

I was introduced to the Canadian version of Smarties a couple of years ago when I ordered some car parts from PDM Racing in British Columbia. Somebody in the shop had tossed a box of them in the package. It was a tasty surprise, because I was used to the tiny sugary disc variety and, well, just didn't expect candy tucked in amongst the headlights and suspension bushings.

Any non-Canadians tried a Caramilk bar?

No, you're not allowed to know how they put the caramel in it. Unless you want to make a certain "deal" with this red guy with horns (anyone remember that old commercial?)

Ketchup, dill and all dressed are good. Roasted Chicken was kind of gross. haven't seen poutine (I mean fries and gravy - missing the cheese!), but that sounds pretty rank.

Can't comment on the candy.

the dill flavor is around here pringles is selling a dill flavor too.

as for the reeses cups.

there is even an extra fat/tall version still around.
it is about double the thickness of a regular.

i have a freezer with a bunch of all those versions, except crunchy.

they were showing up at WAWA and walmart over the last year or so.

There was a story on the national news last week (CBS, I believe) about a guy that buys these foreign Kit Kats and other candy bars advertised as "special editions" and makes a killing selling them on the Internet. They showed one oddball that keeps a two-year old box of dark Kit-Kats in the fridge.

For sure! My theory - the caramilk is FROZEN, place on two FROZEN chocolate molds (top and bottom), and then lightly melted to remove any mold lines.

Sound plausible? Anybody really know how they get the caramilk in there?
