With quotes from Titanic, Dirty Dancing, and Dead Poet's Society in the first segment I had a feeling it was going to be a long night. Posted Image Posted Image But it was still pretty enjoyable seeing all of the clips.

Biggest ommisions for me were...

No, I am your father - The Empire Strikes Back
Game over man - Aliens
That's the fact, Jack! - Stripes

also surprised that nothing from A Clockwork Orange or Full Metal Jacket made the cut.

- Walter.

Fidelity to the source should always be the goal for Blu-ray releases.

Ones I particularly missed: "Shut Up & Deal" "When General Motors has to go to the bathroom ten times a day, the whole country's ready to let go." "I'm an advertising man, not a red herring. I've got a job, a secretary, a mother, two ex-wives and several bartenders that depend upon me, and I don't intend to disappoint them all by getting myself 'slightly' killed." "Those AREN'T PILLOWS!" And many, many more. The highlight was when they took the line "It's Alive", and showed how great it worked not just in the original, but the brilliant comedy Young Frankenstein. Too bad they didn't do the same thing for "I don't have to show you any stinking badges!"
"Movies should be like amusement parks. People should go to them to have fun." - Billy Wilder

"Subtitles good. Hollywood bad." - Tarzan, Sight & Sound 2012 voter.

"My films are not slices of life, they are pieces of cake." - Alfred Hitchcock"My great humility is just one of the many reasons that I...

They did a similar thing with "love means never having to say you're sorry." In addition to the Love Story clip, they also showed the bit from the end of What's Up Doc, where Ryan O'Neal pokes fun at the line at his own expense: Babs says it to him and flutters her eyebrows, and he says, "That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard."

Inconceivable! Also missing quotes from Blazing Saddles, Aliens, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and so on.

After some of the discussion in the ROTS thread I was surprised to see only one OT quote. Posted Image

Some great quotes on there, though. Some of those quotes I am only familiar with because they were reused in other movies I've seen...which, of course, just proves how great the quotes are in the first place. Posted Image

I like this list, if only to use as further proof in the "Most Quoted Movie" thread that Casablanca is the most quotable movie of all time (6 quotes total, next are Wizard of Oz and GWTW with 3). Couldn't tell the whippersnappers anything in that thread, maybe they'll listen now. However, "Leave the gun, take the cannoli" is sadly missing.

"I'm not left handed"

"I'm not left handed either."

"My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."

"You mean, you'll put down your rock and I'll put down my sword, and we'll try and kill each other like civilized people?"

"Don't rush me, sonny. You rush a miracle man, you get rotten miracles."

"Life is pain, Highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something."

"Have fun storming the castle!"

"As you wish."

All these quotes, and not one listed... Posted Image (Yeah, I'm a The Princess Bride nut...)

The show was long but fun to watch. Got bored and DVRed the last hour. Funny how clips of movies I haven't actually seen can still give me chills with familiar lines!

If they were going to put an Aliens quote in there it should have been:

"Get away from her, you bitch!"

Some friends and I had a little game going with this last night, trying to guess the top five and top ten. I got three of the top five in the right order and six of the top ten, though, two of them were not in the correct spot.

Here are some they missed: -"Match me, Sidney" from "Sweet Smell Of Success" -"Follow the money" from "All The President's Men" -"Life moves pretty fast...If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it" from "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" -"We didn't land on Plymouth Rock...Plymouth Rock landed on us!" from "Malcolm X" Anybody care to guess what the AFI "100 Years..." list that follows the "film scores" list will be? I've winnowed it down to one of the following 3: -"AFI's 100 Years, 100 Visions: America's Greatest Fantasy Movies" -"AFI's 100 Years, 100 Looks: America's Most Stylish Movies" -"AFI's 100 Years, 100 Casts: America's Best Movie Ensembles" Which would you go with? Sincerely, John Kilduff... I'm glad that "Say hello to my little friend!" made it on the list.

To me, the biggest line missing is from It's A Wonderful Life... "Everytime a bell rings, an angel gets his wings." -Not sure how that one wasn't in the top 100.
