Hey Walter-

I have heard those interpretations before. To me, it does nothing to give the scene (or rest of the movie) any more meaning or plausibility.

The very fact that someone would suggest a google search on Magnolia Frogs tells me the scene is obviously one that many other people either don't get, don't buy, or don't like as they find it as implausible as I do.

Heck, Chariots of Fire is better than Magnolia!

For ordinary men, it's a burning, fiery furnace.

Rob, I suggested the google search as a way to avoid rote repetition of interpretations of that thematic element. I didnt' say I needed it to understand how the scene ties into the opening sequences of the film. Posted Image

I better go outside and check to see if it is raining frogs.

- Walter.

Fidelity to the source should always be the goal for Blu-ray releases.

I follow you Walter. Wish I could say the same for Magnolia!

Any idea when he will come out with a new movie?
He's ghost directing for Robert Altman's next film, A Prairie Home Companion. Apparently, a senile Altman sits in his wheelchair, barks orders, and P.T. translates those orders into instructions for the cast and crew. P.T. will only be getting an executive producer credit, thanks to union rules. After he's finished with that, his next film is rumored to be titled "There Will Be Blood" with Daniel Day-Lewis, based on Upton Sinclair's novel, "Oil!"

I've only watched BOOGIE NIGHTS (1997; ***) but do have PUNCH-DRUNK LOVE (2002) on VHS; apart from this, I've been intending to rent MAGNOLIA (1999) on DVD for, like, forever...Posted Image

I find that I like all of Anderson's movies, and I like each of them nearly as much as the next one, though I can't quite say I love any of them.

In order of preference:
Punch-Drunk Love - rewatched this last week, and it gains in my estimation everytime. I think this is his best work, and after my next viewing... I might just love it!

Boogie Nights - porn, drugs, angst and cheesy 70s clothing (I mean the movie, not the contents of my closet)

Magnolia - might be a notch higher on the list if my wife hadn't made us watch it a gazillion times. Not quite successful, but gamely salvaged in the editing room. Lose the too-clever/not-very-clever opening exposition, some of the too spot-on analogies, and the occasional over-emoting by the actors... and you've got a much shorter movie. Posted Image

She comes at night, when you're all alone
