I've successfully avoided most of Altman's output in the past few decades, I'm sure I've seen more I just can't remember them. I kinda liked The Player for some reason.

In view of the fact that Mr. Altman will be receiving a well-deserved Honorary Academy Award in a week's time, I'm posting my entry in this poll.

I guess a better tribute would have been for me to purchase MacCABE AND MRS, MILLER, IMAGES (1972), THE LONG GOODBYE, CALIFORNIA SPLIT (1974), THREE WOMEN (1977), THE PLAYER, SHORT CUTS (1993) and GOSFORD PARK on DVD - or even watch my 2-Disc Set of M.A.S.H. (1970)...oh, well:frowning:!

It should also be said that Altman shot an entire film of his on the island where I live...it's a pity that the film turned out to be one of his worst, POPEYE!


P.S. I own THREE WOMAN (on DVD) and ARIA (1987; on VHS) but have yet to watch either of them.

I definitely prefer his weirder films. I don't get into the whole ensemble cast/interconnected stories thing that much.

My favorites are McCabe and Nashville, although I've really enjoyed nearly all of them. He's always had my attention, and I never pass up a chance to see one of his films.

I own The Player and am afraid to watch it again for fear I wouldn't like it as much (whereas with Gosford Park, maybe I'd like it better the second time). I have an old VHS copy of The Long Goodbye, too.
