Here are some of my fave television films from when I was a kid (as well as one I didn't manage to catch), that I'd love to see on DVD:

DEATH RACE (1973) Allied soldiers Doug McClure and Roy Thinnes vs. Nazi soldiers Lloyd Bridges and Eric Braeden in a nifty little chase thriller...Doug & Roy are in a crippled plane, skimming across the ground, and are being chased by Lloyd and crew in a tank. Got an excellent copy from the Encore Action Channel a few years ago.

KILLDOZER (1974) Clint Walker stars in this thriller about a group of construction workers hired to build an airstrip on a Pacific island during WWII. Their bulldozer inadvertently hits a meteorite, which causes a strange blue light to emanate and it possesses the bulldozer, causing it to run by itself and start killing people...

THE MORNING AFTER (1974) Dick Van Dyke's Emmy-winning performance as Charlie Lester, a tragic alcoholic public-relations man. Teleplay by Richard Matheson. I'm chomping at the bit to see this, as I'm a rabid Van Dyke fan.

THE SAVAGE BEES (1976) The best of the "African killer bees" films; puts THE SWARM to absolute shame, not that that's all that much of a feat.

MYSTERIOUS TWO (Made in 1979, not broadcast until 1982) John Forsythe and Priscilla Pointer as "He and She", based on the two nutzoids known as "The Two", who first became known in the '70s and later reappeared in the '90s as the leaders of the Hale-Bopp-obsessed Heaven's Gate cult. Wacked-out stuff that I haven't seen since it originally aired.

THE GUYANA TRAGEDY: The Story Of Jim Jones (1980) Powers Boothe is a powerhouse in this television classic. I believe this came out on DVD in Australia, but it could really use a nice R1 special edition.

Anyone else want to chime in with their fave television films?

this has been out for some time now ( i bought my copy about 3 yrs ago).
great transfer on it too.
the film looks like it was shot yesterday.

there were a lot of really interesting MFTV movies in the early-mid 70s. it would be great to see some company package a bunch of them together (maybe in a package similar to the after school specials?).
if the price were right and the movies were good, i'd buy em.

The Night That Panicked America (1976)

This was a made for TV re-telling of the Orson Welles War Of The Worlds broadcast. It's never been available in any home video format, but I've heard it may be coming to DVD late this spring or early summer.

Repeating my answers from this thread: Generation X (1996), Sybil (1976), Breaking Up Is Hard to Do (1979), Death Penalty (1980), and Always Remember I Love You (1990). I'll add An Early Frost (1985), The Secrets of Lake Success (1995) and The Spell (1977).

Run A Crooked Mile (1979) with Louis Jourdan and Mary Tyler Moore. A great Universal thriller made in Britain. Superb.

How I spent My Summer Vacation with Robert Wagner, Jill St John, and Peter Lawford. 1967 I believe this was the first Made for TV movie.

You guys are totally dredging up my childhood! No question that the 1970's were THE golden era of the MFTVM, and you all seem to be doing a great job of recalling the high points.

I'll chime in that, as a horror movie fan, I recall that several of the best horror films of the 1970's were actually made-for-TV's. While we're fortunate enough to have the best remembered MFTV horror movies on DVD already (The Night Stalker, The Night Strangler, Night Gallery (pilot), Duel, Trilogy of Terror), there are several more truly great MFTV horror films that haven't been released yet (Will they ever be? We can only hope). Several have been mentioned above, but to reiterate and add a few (from the 1970's and later):

Don't Be Afraid of the Dark
The Dead Don't Die
Killdozer
Crowhaven Farm
Something Evil
The Norliss Tapes
The Legend of Lizzie Borden
Are You In the House Alone?

And of course the very great The Dark Night of The Scarecrow, which has to be one of the most sought after horror movies (theatrical or not) not out on DVD by horror film fans like myself. In fact, I would easily list The Dark Night of The Scarecrow, Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, and The Norliss Tapes as being among the best (and scariest) horror films of the last thirty years.

It would be really nice if the studios that have rights to these (many of them were aired on ABC originally - not that that has anything to do with the current right holdings) would recognize both the quality and nostalgia value of them and give them some kind of a release on DVD.

Remember these?

"The Strange and Deadly Occurrence" ~1974? Starring Robert Stack and Vera Miles

"One Of My Wives Is Missing" 1976 Starring James Franciscus, Jack Klugman, Elisabth Ashley (this one's a great "Who Done It")

Do You Remember Love - a real tear-jerker and very maudlin but Joanne Woodward provides by far and away the best performance of someone with mental illness *ever* in *any* picture, TV or movie. I spent a couple of years cataloguing the symptoms of patients with Alzheimer's disease and several times I found myself reaching for a notepad to make case notes - she was that convincing.
