I am getting very tired of seeing Mary Kay LeTorneau and her fiance/former student Villi all over the tv and promoting their upcoming wedding. My wife said they were on CBS This Morning. It was a horrible thing she did and for her to keep getting put in the limelight and not be slammed is ridiculous. The one thing I always tell people when they ask why even after her prison time do I think she should shunned? Just reverse the situation and say it was a 34 year old man and a 12 year old girl. People's attitudes usually change. end rant.
Bring back John Doe! Or at least resolve the cliff-hanger with a 2hr movie or as an extra on a dvd release.

I agree. The media is now trying to turn this into some fairy tale romance. And you're correct...if you reversed the situation...how "romantic" would it be then. Then in the same breath, they'll have a segment about "Why the sudden outbreak in female teachers having sex with young male students?" Just ridiculous.

I don't think it is happening more. I think it is not being covered up as much. And if it is happening more. I think it is related to how society reacts to it..see above. Also, I think the best way to stop it is to make mandatory sentences of 10 years if convicted. What is it now...3 months or probation.

Yeah, it just seems that there's no shame in anything anymore. They get tons of TV coverage, and are turned into some sort of minor celeb.

"Entertainment Tonight" has "won" the rights to televise/cover their wedding.

For many thousands of years, all over the Earth, cultures have had couples pairing off at ages you are not used to and apparently don't sanction. These two people don't upset me and I wish them well.

Eh, this kind of logic doesn't work for me. For many thousands of years, all over the Earth, we did lots of stupid things....that doesn't mean they apply to the year 2005...in America. This woman was a teacher to a young boy. Sure, everyone can fire off the "hey, I would have loved to bang my teacher" jokes, but the reality is...how would most people feel if their young son came to them and told them that a 30 something year old teacher had been having sex with them? The media is glamorizing this crime..because it was a crime, make no mistake about it. If a 35 year old male teacher was having sex with a 13 year old girl, this would be viewed entirely different.

Few more stupid that two people falling in love without getting everyone elses approval. Well, they're both 18 and over now, but, what the heck, I see your point, why don't we just give them both another 7 years for impertinence?

I dunno. There's something so sick, so twisted about this; about the media coverage, about the sheeple (that'd be you and me) gobbling it up like it's important, about the idea of this not bad looking woman having at it with this homely little guy, against the law, all knocked up and in prison... There's something here, the germ of something, something that just... turns... me... ON.

Whether you call it statutory rape or child rape it is STILL child molestation.

I don't like the idea that someone who took advantage of a minor, serves time in prison for the crime, and then takes up with [the now former] minor again as if she were away on vacation.

Now that they are over 18 years of age we need to let them just fade away. On another note....Tom Cruise is dating Katie Holmes....42/26.

Yes...everyone involved now are over 18 now, so thats done now in my eyes. Shes still a sick woman though...I believe that she admitted to being sexual attracted to her kids during prison therapy, but I heard that from a semi-dubious source.

I agree with you, but to flip the question around a bit...how would most people feel if their young son came to them and told them that anyone was having sex with them? It's the sex that's the issue, not necessarily the age. Though, I completely agree that what she did was a crime. Now that they're both over 18, I couldn't care less, and I wish the gossip columns/shows would drop it.

There are many things in life I don't like, but since they are both adults now and she served her time, I don't see what the fuss is. It's no more (and no less) worthy of attention than, say, the antics of the utterly uninteresting British royal family.

I agree that we don't need to blast this all over T.V. It's too creepy.
Well, he is over 18 now and can make his own decisions. Nobody is forcing him to be with anybody.

what if she was 28 and he was 6? would you still wish them well if they are both over 18 now? or did they do that somewhere in history too? CJ
And then when I feel so stuffed I can't eat anymore, I just use the restroom! And then I CAN eat more!

If she served her time and they are both now over 18, what business is it of yours (or anyone's) what they do?
