The Features

Jo Jordan: Can I lend you some money?
Rick Martin: Wouldn't know what to do with it.

–Doris Day as Jo Jordan and Kirk Douglas as Rick Martin (Young Man With a Horn - 1950)

Yeah, I lied to Jerri, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. If “ifs and buts” were candy and nuts, we'd all have a merry Christmas.
– Colby Donaldson as himself (Survivor: Australian Outback – 2001)

Individual titles included in the collections listed above:

The Doris Day Collection: Calamity Jane, The Glass Bottom Boat, (Billy Rose’s) Jumbo, Love Me or Leave Me, Lullaby of Broadway, Pajama Game, Please Don’t Eat the Daisies, Young Man With a Horn.

The Disclaimer
Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed advertisements, the Sunday of the week of release (so as to catch any week-of-release sale prices). All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price. If a price is marked "$_N/A_" in the grid, it means that this title is not shown as available on that chain's website or perhaps in their ads...but it COULD still be in-stores!

$_"LP" means the advertisement says "Low Price", and $_"HP" means the advertisement says "Hot Price". Use of either of these in the Roundup grid indicates that I could not locate a definite price for the item, and the ad is all I have to go on. Retailers use these phrases in advertisements so that they do not violate MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) agreements with the studios. Doing so can cost them thousands or even millions of dollars in co-op advertising funds.

I only include the titles I feel like including (or the ones Dave tells me he's looking for ;o)). In fact, the titles are pretty much the ones I'm personally interested in, with few exceptions. I don't get paid for this, and I don't have time to devote to doing every DVD. So, please don't complain. If there is a title not included in the Roundup that you want to see, just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone...like Dave & I do!

Note that Circuit City does not guarantee their sale prices in Hawaii. Also note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the standard Roundup: they set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is not a way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. When it comes to Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices mentioned at all, just remember that "Your Mileage May Vary".

The Specials

**BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL! Blade: Trinity (R) AND Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events (non CE) are available in both OAR and MAR versions...get the correct one! Blade: Trinity is also being released in R-Rated and Unrated versions…AND Darkness is being released in PG-13-rated and Unrated versions…get the one that’s right for you!

ALERT! There is a BIG pricing discrepancy between Circuit City’s Sunday flyer and circuitcity.com on the Snicket CE. The CC flyer lists Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events CE at $29.99 while circuitcity.com has the CE listed for $19.99 – the lowest price available.

--I also have a price discrepancy at CC on Survivor: Outback. While cc.com is marking down the set from $49.99 to $29.99, my local CC Sunday flyer has it listed for $32.99. :frowning:

--Amazon is still featuring free shipping on orders over $25. Restrictions apply.

--Circuit City is advertising an EXCLUSIVE FREE 25 minute bonus DVD on its copies of Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events. …with behind the scenes footage. While supplies last. Minimum 25 per store.

--Circuit City and Best Buy are also advertising a FREE Limited Edition Marvel Comic Book “Blade: Nightstalking” on their copies of the Blade: Trinity DVD. At CC: While supplies last. Minimum 20 per store.

--Circuit City is offering a 2/$25 deal on the combined purchase of Blade: Trinity ($14.99)and Blade 2 ($14.99) DVDs. In store only. Purchases must be on same receipt.

--Best Buy is offering—for Reward Zone Members only—a 2/$20 deal on Blade ($9.99) and Blade: Trinity ($17.99).

--Best Buy and Target are also offering Special Editions of the first two volumes of Family Guy DVDs. They apparently contain some light extras not included in the original sets and FREE BONUS T-Shirts. At Best Buy: BB EXCLUSIVE BONUS DISC plus T-shirt, instantly, with purchase of Family Guy Volume 1 or 2. Features the Best of Stewie, including commentary from creator Seth McFarlane. Also includes a limited edition on-pack T-shirt. Minimum 6 of each per store. No rainchecks. $34.99 each. At Target: Limited Edition. Bonus T-Shirt and DVD inside. $29.99 each

--Target is offering a FREE EXCLUSIVE “The Blank Book” on its copies of Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events. Packaged together. Quantity limited. No rainchecks.

--Coconuts (a TransWorld owned store, like FYE) is advertising in a Sunday flyer this weekend that they, too, are offering the Family Guy LE sets with T-shirts for $39.99 each. They also have the free comic book on Blade: Trinity. Coconuts is also advertising Wildboyz: S2 for $19.99, and “Low Prices” on Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events and Darkness.

The Appeal

If you’re a fan of the Weekly RoundUp…or like talking with other HT enthusiasts about your hobby and the latest new releases, PLEASE HELP SUPPORT THE HOME THEATER FORUM!!!

Operating the HTF is not free for Parker and Ron. That is why there is advertising throughout the forum and there has been the occasional membership fund drive. And there is a way for you to help…FREE OF CHARGE!

If you would simply link to the Portal Page when you start your visits to the HTF, that act alone would bring revenue to the forum. While it would also be nice if you wanted to click on some of the advertisers’ links and check out their deals and sales (that form of “window shopping” would bring even more revenue to the forum), the simple act of landing on the Portal Page registers a “hit” or “impression” that creates revenue for the HTF.

So, if you’ve been “sneaking in” to the HTF through links to your favorite thread or forum, please help out by taking an extra second of your time and landing first on the HTF Portal Page. Thank you!

Thanks, Mike.

Just The Glass Bottom Boat and Please Don't Eat the Daisies for me.

Though I see there's another version of Why We Fight being released. I've held off on this since the releases are apparently sub-par, and this one is unlikely to be any better, but if it is better, and assuming there's some way to discover that, since there aren't likely to be any reviews; I'd pick that up too.

My plan was to only get Blade Trinity, but if Batman Vol. 1 and Futurama Vol. 3 are on sale, I might have to splurge. GGGGRRRRR....choices....

Mike, those price discrepencies on LS:CE and Survivor at CC and CC.com is due to a sale on select box sets going on right now at CC.com not available in-store. There's been a thread about it for a few days @ DVDTalk.

For me, it's Crank Yankers S2,V1 (which arrived in today's mail, actually) and, probably, Airline S1 this week.

George, your post made me laugh. I just recently learned what a "glass bottom boat" is, in slang, and so seeing it in your post (I didn't notice it when I was going thru the Roundup) put a smile on my face. Enjoy your "glass bottom boat." :)

After having quit my job two weeks ago, money is a little tight...

However, there is no force on this Earth that will keep me from getting TMNT: Season Two. I've been awaiting this one for months.

K-Mart is going to have ER season 3 for only $27.99! That's the best price I have seen so far.

I just get Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events CE from Amazon, as I bet Circuit City will change the website price by Tuesday. Other then that, it a slow week. Thanks for the roundup Mike.

Just a quick question,

I open the HTF pages I read in several tabs. I added one for the portal page. Will this still help or do I need to go there first and click to the forums I read?
I want to do my part, but I'm kinda used to the tab thing.

Thanx,

Joey Dee

Joey: That should do it. The way Parker explains it to me...All you need to do is call up the Portal page and that somehow generates revenue for the HTF. You do NOT need to click on the ads or banners which are located on the page...although doing so simply means even more revenue (somehow, magically) for the HTF.

Myself, I simply enter through the portal page and then click on the HTF logo in the upper left hand corner which brings me to the Forum Index page and I begin from there.

Crap! I just went to cc.com to pre-order the Survivor set at $29.99 and they've changed it to the $32.99 price!

For once I was going to take advantage of the lower price at an on-line vendor and save the sales tax (and free S&H!)...[John Belushi]but, noooooooooooooooo![/John Belushi]

Thanks Mike! Awesome job!

I am SO confused about the Family Guy bonus discs though. Are the bonus discs at Best Buy and Target the same, or are they different? Also does the Lemony Snicket bonus disc at Circuit City only come with the regualr edition? Thanks.

Dunno, dunno & dunno.

But thanks for your kind words, Eric (and everyone else, too)!

While I would think the bonus disc on the Family Guy sets are the same...the Best Buy ad clearly marks their disc as a "Best Buy exclusive". Guess we'll find out Tuesday...unless someone else knows for sure. I've got the smartest readership on the 'net, ya know. ;) Stay tuned.

Thanks once again Mike.

I wonder if there are 2 different bonus discs for each of the two Family Guy volumes. If not, and the disc are both the same, I will just buy one volume from Target and the other from Best Buy. This way I can know for sure if the bonus content from each store is identical or not. I will post here when I find out.

Just The Assassination of Richard Nixon for me, since I bought the family guy dvd's long ago.

I'm a bit surprised no one is getting tAoRN.. for those of you who haven't seen it yet, I'd say it is definatly worth a blind buy, or at least a rent.. it is the finest acting performance I've seen Sean Penn give.

I'd love to pick up KOTH s3 and Futurama s3 as well, but the nearest best buy is an hour away. Have a good week folks.
