Since WB is putting out so many Box sets lately, here is a another one. How about one with romance films. I nominate the following for starters:

- "Crossing Delancey"
- "Rich and Famous" (1981)
- "Humoresque"
- "A Little Romance" already released but throw it in

I didn't list any Bette Davis romantic films because they belong in my long awaited Bette Box!!

Sign me up for a release of "Crossing Delancey".

Also, here's my idea for a box set:

"80s Music At The Movies"

Possible titles:

-"Electric Dreams"
-"URGH! A Music War!" (I believe Warner has the rights to this title through the Lorimar library.)
-"Reckless"
-"Who's That Girl?"
-A widescreen re-issue of "True Stories"

Sincerely,

John Kilduff...

I know I'd defnitely buy that.

It'll never ever happen but I'd love to see a Delmer Daves box set consisting of A Summer Place, Parrish, Susan Slade, Rome Adventure and Youngblood Hawke.

Thomas,

I would think any Delmer Daves collection would have to include Pride of the Marines.

I'll second the Delmer Daves set, and the Thin Man set, but how about sets for:

Mickey & Judy musicals
The "Andy Hardy" series
Ann Sothern's "Maisie" films
"Dr. Kildare" w/ Lew Ayres & Lionel Barrymore
Esther Williams
The "Golddiggers" musicals
Vitaphone shorts
"Mexican Spitfire" series w/ Lupe Velez & Leon Errol
Classic MGM silents- The Big Parade, Greed, Ben-Hur, Flesh & The Devil, The Crowd, Show People, Our Dancing Daughters, La Boheme, The Wind
Garbo Silents
Sixties 'rock musicals': Viva Las Vegas, Get Yourself A College Girl, Hold On!, When The Boys Meet The Girls, The Cool Ones, The Fastest Guitar Alive
Tennessee Williams films: Streetcar, Cat On a Hot Tin Roof, Period of Adjustment, The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone, Night of the Iguana

How about a set containing the greatest works of stop motion animation pioneer Willis O'Brien:

King Kong (1933)
The Son of Kong (1933)
Mighty Joe Young (1949)

Portals from the LDs of "The Dawn of Sound," "Vitaphone Shorts," "Cavalcade of MGM Shorts," "Swing, Swing, Swing" Boxset Collections and an SE of the notorious "Golden Dawn" (1930). Also: An MGM Cecil B. DeMille box set (MADAM SATAN, THE SQUAW MAN, and DYNAMITE).

Or, since you mentioned "Humoresque" - a Joan Crawford box set would be natty! "A Woman's Face", "Dancing Lady", The Bride Wore Red", "Mannequin", maybe?

Does Warners own the '60s MGM musicals? Man, that is a great idea -- and don't forget MRS. BROWN YOU'VE GOT A LOVELY DAUGHTER. Who released SEA CRUISE with Freddie and the Dreamers?

I'd love a boxed set of CRIME DOES NOT PAY shorts. And a SUPERMAN/ATOM MAN VS. SUPERMAN serial box, lousy as the serials were, would be fun to see.

Some great suggestions so far. I'd add Brewster McCloud to that cult/sub-culture boxset.

I would also love to see a Classic Horror Boxset:

Devil Doll, The
Doctor X
Mad Love
Mark of the Vampire
Mask of Fu Manchu, The
Picture of Dorian Grey, The
Walking Dead, The

Laurence- yes, Warners owns everything from MGM prior to 1986 as part of the Turner holdings. I'd forgotten about the other Herman's Hermits film.

For the classic horror films I'd add some Hammer films along with the two Dark Shadows features (and praying that Warners restores Night of Dark Shadows to its 129-minute director's cut!).

I'm not up on the details, but this is, unfortunately, not true. For instance, they don't own the rights to 1963's It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. :frowning:

Warner owns the MGM library prior to 1986 as was stated. They do not own the United Artist films that MGM/UA owned prior to its purchase by Ted Turner. When Turner sold MGM/UA
he kept only the MGM films/pre 48 Warner Bros/ and RKO films but sold United Artist films(James Bond / Mad World/Early Woody Allen, Rocky, Great Escape etc) with the rest of the company.
When Warner bought Turner they got the rights to the films Ted Turner kept.

The Peter Weir Collection:
The Year of Living Dangerously
The Mosquito Coast
Fearless (remastered)

Yeah, I know that they're available individually now, but all three discs leave a lot to be desired.

M-G-M released a Laserdisc box with these films years ago:
"The Devil Doll"
"Mad Love"
"Mark of the Vampire"
"The Mask of Fu Manchu"

I won it on eBay. I'd buy the DVD box set you proposed in a NY minute! :D :D
