If you were stranded on an island and somebody granted you 10cds from your collection and a "Discman", what albums would you choose?

Here are mine, in no particular order:

1. Radiohead - "The Bends" My first and fav RH album.

2. Radiohead - "Pablo Honey"
Odd choice as far as critical acclaim is concerned. But I can't really hit fast forward on this disc.

3. Lush - "Split"
This is the disc that made me a shoegazer. Dark, ethereal, haunting, depressing. Inspired me to take up photography.

4. Delerium - "Karma"
Essential electronica. So lush and organic. Not experimental/ambient like their earlier work, not the commercial/radio friendly fluff that I got after the duo split.

5. Nada Surf - "Proximity Effect"
Clever lyrics, college/nerd rock at its best

6. The Cranberries - "Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We"
They never reached these lofty heights again.

7. Marilyn Manson - "Lest We Forget"
Manson has too many good songs. Had to the pick the best of.

8. Placebo - "Without You I'm Nothing"

9. Pet Shop Boys - "Pop Art"
Again, PSB has too many goodies, so I have to take as many on one disc as I can :) This one's actually two discs, so I'm cheating a bit. Otherwise, I'll take "Discography"

10. Tegan and Sara - "So Jealous"
Best disc I bought in 2004, by a landslide. Saw them live last week. It's indie pop perfection.

oooo tough one!

1) Barenaked Ladies - Disc One (Greatest Hits)
2) AC/DC - Highway to Hell
2) Zero 7 - Simple Things
3) Disturbed - The Sickness
4) Crystal Method - Tweakened
5) Kiss - Revenge
6) Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power
7) Weird Al Yankovic - Off The Deep End
8) Audioslave - (self titled)
9) Snoop Dogg - Doggystle
10) Megadeth - but do I pick Rust in Peace or Coutdown to Extinction... do I have to pick?

Wow yeah this was a tough question. I'd like to pick another 10 or 20 but I guess if you're stuck on an island you've got to take what you can get. LOL.

In the spirit of your question, and according to my present mood:

1. Genesis – The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway
2. Television – Marquee Moon
3. Love – Forever Changes
4. The Mothers Of Invention – One Size Fits All
5. Love Battery – Dayglo
6. The Beatles – The White Album
7. The Beach Boys – Surf’s Up
8. Nirvana – Unplugged in NYC
9. Jimi Hendrix – Fillmore
10. Miles Davis – Kind of Blue

(In reality I would make ten 80 minute CD-Rs or bring my 20GB MP3 player).

BTW, I am in the process of ripping my entire 2000+ CD collection (plus some vinyl, cassettes, etc.) to an external 500 GB hard drive I just bought. So maybe I would just bring that with my laptop.

Of course, pre-ordered the 2-disc version and so got my name in the booklet. It's wonderful. Any of their last three albums would be strong contenders for that desert island. Also saw them live in November and they are amazing.

How about 10 DVD-MP3 discs? An entire record store in an easy to swallow pill......including various books on tape - old time radio shows - Sing Along With Barny for when you can't stand the isolation on the island anymore and you want to commit suicide...

While pondering my list, I got to thinking a deserted island didn't sound so bad after all. Anybody know of one not to far from the coast of S.F.? And while you're at it, how about finding me a nice little "Mary Ann" too. (Now stop it! My intentions are honorable. After all, this is a family forum.) As for my list. This week it would be 2-3 early ones from Yes, a couple from Genesis, some Steely Dan, The Little River Bands Greatest Hits,(kinda uplifting) and any country and western album from the mid to late '70's should work as an "am I insane yet" barometer. And last but not least, a hi-res Elliot Scheiner mixed m/c version of Moving Waves by Focus. After all, we are dreaming aren't we?
