Does anyone remember when they redubbed episodes around the time of the attempted assassination of Ronald Reagan so that Mr. Hinkley became "Mr. Hanley"? Later, IIRC, they didn't know what to call him and they alternated between a few names. Do you think that enough time has passed that they may restore William Katt's character's name to Ralph Hinkley again?

I think enough time has passed, but the people in charge never ask me. (Of course I never would have even known this attempted assassin's name if I hadn't read about a character on "Greatest American Hero" whose name had to be changed because of it.)

I really don't remember much about this show cause I was so young, but I do remember singing the song all the time because my mom still owns the theme on a 45! Rock on. I'll probably see if I can rent this one somewhere, unless it's very cheap.

Deep Discount DVD is selling it for $17.99. I pre-ordered mine last month. I never bought anything from them before, so I don't know how their service is.

Come'on now David.. if you're gonna sing, sing it all!

Look at what's happened to me,
I can't believe it myself.
Suddenly I'm up on top of the world,
It should've been somebody else.

Believe it or not, I'm walking on air.
I never thought I could feel so free!
Flying away on a wing and a prayer.
Who could it be?
Believe it or not it's just me!

It's like a light of a new day,
It came from out of the blue.
Breaking me out of the spell I was in,
Making all of my wishes come true!

Believe it or not, I'm walking on air.
I never thought I could feel so free!
Flying away on a wing and a prayer.
Who could it be?
Believe it or not it's just me!

MAN I hope they include "The Greatest American Heroine"! I spent a week piecing back together a full copy from three different showings, but I will GLADLY trash it for a commercial release!

45 episodes total....

1st season - 9
2nd season - 22
3rd season - 13 (4 unaired in original run)
'revival pilot' - 1

that split into 2 sets badly no matter how you do it... I would rather pay the upfront and just make it a 12 disc set (the 44 'original' on 11 discs and the 12th disc of the 'revival' pilot and extras..)

By the way, which episode had Connie Sellecca's character Pam distracting the bad guys by going to their front door and making like a very seductive charity collector?

Is Cannell replacing all the music because he can't pay for it, or because he doesn't want to pay for it?

Why does no one explore the possibility that THE COULD NOT GET IT? That is a possibility you know.

The recent (current) Canadian airings on Showcase Action appeared to be (for the most part) uncut.. clocking in at around 47 minutes/ep. This is without the 'on this episode' teaser and the 'coming next time' trailer... but they looked pretty complete to me (no OBVIOUS snips). I hope this set looks good, I'll gladly retire my homemades...

won't this show have the same DVD music rights expense problems as shows like Wonder Years or Quantum Leap?
Maybe not.. none of the songs used were the ORIGINAL ARTISTS singing them.. most were Joey Scarborogh (sp?) covers...

David.. little correction for the news item..

The Greatest American Heroine was AIRED during the syndication run of the program, both on regular stations and in the early days of FX (but has NOT been aired during it's run on SHOWCASE ACTION in Canada). So it's not in the 'unaired' category...

Dates and other such...

Greatest American Hero 1981-1983
Greatest American Heroine 1986

(Robert Clup got old fast in those 3 years)

since GAHeroine filmed three years after the series ended, it obviously could not have aired during the 'original broadcast', but DID air in the syndication package.

Mary Ellen Stuart - Holly Hathaway in GAHeroine (and she the suit DEFINATELY fit her better than Ralph).

I like the cover before they had the actors on it. Maybe there is still time for them to change it.

Since Anchor Bay released the immensely screwed-up 21 Jump Street set, I don't hold out much hope for The Greatest American Hero...let's see...changed music...cut syndicated versions... Posted Image

Yeah, I know, I'm a bit cynical these days.

Was the show ever syndicated? It only lasted 3 seasons (the 3rd cut short early) so you might not need to worry about this.

They could split this into two sets. They should do a gift set with a shirt in a box designed like the alien costume box, with the DVD case removable in the same way as the instruction book (though not sliding out as easily while carrying it through the desert Posted Image ).

Good news indeed! Been wanting this one for a long time. Given that the first season was rather short (seven or eight episodes, I think), perhaps they could combine season one and two.

Good to hear that Anchor Bay is releasing it. They've gotten to be pretty good lately at putting out feature-packed TV sets like Xena and Three's Company. And they seem to be committed to getting out the whole run of the show. I'll buy at least the first two seasons of this one!
