Well last winter I had to get a replacement Dream Theater DVD from them and they just sent out the disc-no swap required.

The disc will make it into future sets, but I have no idea when.

Do you know if there will be a way to tell if the disc is the old or new one? An added "A" at the end of the disc # or something?

"And now the reprimand, from an American critic. He reproaches me for using film as a sacred & lasting medium, like a painting or a book. He does not believe that filmmaking is an inferior art, but he believes, and quite rightly, that a reel goes quickly, that the public are looking above all for relaxation, that film is fragile and that it is pretentious to express the power of one's soul by such ephemeral and delicate means, that Charlie Chaplin's or Buster Keaton's first films can only be seen on very rare and badly spoiled prints. I add that the cinema is making daily progress and that eventually films that we consider marvelous today will soon be forgotten because of new dimensions & colour. This is true. But for 4 weeks this film [The Blood of a Poet] has been shown to audiences that have been so attentive, so eager & so warm, that I wonder after all there is not an anonymous public who are looking for more than relaxation in the cinema." - Jean Cocteau, 1932

Wow. Considering that we all (myself included) like to complain about missing music, cut scenes, etc, I think it would be nice if we all took a few minutes to drop Rhino an email and thank them for handling this so well. Might was well give credit where credit is due. I definitely understand that mistakes happen, and Rhino has done the honorable and correct thing by offering a replacement. My hat's off to them (if I wore hats). Posted Image

Got it, too. Doesn't even look like we will have to bother with sending in the old one? Posted Image

Well, over at Satellite News they have some partial news about Vol.8:
Quote:
SOME VOLUME 8 NEWS
Our Rhino Home Video spy tells us that they are busily at work negotiating licensing deals for the movies that will be in the Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection: Volume 8 DVD set. Two of the four titles have been selected: episode 902- PHANTOM PLANET and -- yikes!-- episode 907- HOBGOBLINS. The other two titles are still in the negotiation stage and were not revealed.

No release date yet, but at this point, you have to figure fall at the earliest. Stay tuned!

: both Sci-Fi episodes.....sigh....while not necessarily a bad thing I was hoping for more Comedy Central releases (Joel hopefully) but those are some funny episodes and there are two more yet to be announced (fingers crossed).

Nope. And I e-mailed Dr. Rhino on the first or second day the replacement discs were announced.

I look forward to any episode I haven't seen; and there are many, as VHS & DVD have been basically my only opportunity to see the show (aside from 10 or 12 that I saw on TV throughout the Comedy Central/Sci-Fi eras).

So I do look forward to owning these. Like you though, I feel there needs to be more variety on the sets. Seems like they've either gone with all Joel episodes or all Mike episodes a lot in the later volumes. Here's hoping for two new unreleased CC-era episodes. And... BBI/Rhino may not know it, but a legion of die-hard MST-ies are looking for bonus features. Several fans in the forum I visit would buy the collection based on the bonus features alone.

A bonus feature that I rather liked was the "extra footage" on Vol.3, roughly 17 min. each episode of alternate takes, flubs and basic outtakes from much of the host segments for that particular episode that are quite often hilarious & just plain interesting, it was cool to get a rare behind the scenes look at the production of the show.

Yeah so far we have had 2 sets of extras that have only appeared on one set each (iirc), Mike recording new intros to the show and also the 'raw' host segments already mentioned. I would be happy to see more of either. And of course I want to see more CC episodes simply because I want all the episodes Posted Image

In the meantime, the last 3 DVD releases from the Digital Archive Project have been:

601 Girls Town

302 Gamera

809 I Was a Teenage Werewolf

What the hell is Digital Archive Project and how do you use it? I have...um...acquired many episodes that have their logo in the opening but I still have no idea how their site works.

Oh.....I guess reading their FAQ might be of some help, eh?:b
