Check out this Oknyo 6.1 system. I have heard it first hand and honestly, for $500, its the best out there...for now.

As for a DVD player, it would depend on ur taste, like if u like listening to music as well as watching movies.

I second the vote for that line of Onkyo HTIB's. 770, 870 if you want to go for a big kill. 770 is probably the best value for your dollar right now, imho. Posted Image Posted Image

Good recommendations.
I would also add the Yamaha YHT-450 (w/o DVD) & the YHT-750 (with DVD).

Best Buy carries a Sony 5.1 Surround system that I bought for my son that does a decent job for $199.99.

The Onkyo HTIBs are supposed to be very good for a HTIB. There's been deals on it ranging to about $400 for the 6.1 setup, and less for the 5.1 set.

I would shop around for a decent receiver, sherwood, pioneer, panasonic, yamaha. you could probably pick one up pretty cheap now. and get the fluance speaker system. then get a now discontinued sony sa-wm40 subwoofer and you have the makings of a great sounding budget system.

If you're looking for something that looks slick and takes almost zero space, check out the Sony Dream Systems. My brother has one and it's outstanding!
