ok, so like most folks on here, my fam and i are getting my dad a DVD recorder for x-mas this year. he mainly wants it to dub old home movies off onto. our budget is $250-$300, and i think we can get a decent recorder for that. however, the different blank media formats are giving me a headache right now...which is the best and most versital? DVD-R? DVD+RW...i'm confused...help!

thanks!

For about $300-$350 (shop around), you can get the recent Sony RDR-GX300 model, which records in DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R or DVD+RW.

I've got recorders in both "formats", and the discs all play in my regular players so its not a big deal. I think DVD+RW is the best and most versatile.
