I couldn't find an old thread, so time to start a new one...

The Digital Bits is reporting Fox will release the great, but short-lived Space: Above & Beyond on DVD in 2005!

No other details at the moment, but it's great to hear!

Let's hope it's a nice set.

Too bad there isn't more - it'll be like visiting an old friend at the graveyard, buried between Freaks and Geeks and Key West.

I've never seen this but it sounds like an interesting show. Are there monsters in it?

No, but there are aliens.

This is not really a sci-fi show, it would be more accurate (IMO) to call it a military drama set in space.

Three truths about movies, as noted by Roger Ebert:

* It's not what a movie is about, it's how it is about it.

* No good movie is too long, and no bad movie is short enough.

* No good movie is depressing, all bad movies are depressing.

Guys, don't forget that this has been rumored to be released before, and obviously hasn't been. I hope it's true this time, but I asked Fox about it at the TV-DVD conference and they had no news then.

I remember watching a few episodes of it and enjoying it, but I dont remember it the way I remember the old BattleStar Galactica. Maybe it's because I've seen all the BG episodes so many times. How long did the series run? How many disks do you think it will be? I'm guessing 6 disks or so and $80-100.

Jim, I believe there were 22 eps, so I expect 6 discs from Fox.

Exactly right. So if you don't like war stories, don't think the sci-fi element will help.

The other thing about this series is that (for me, anyway) the first half of the season is really lacklustre. But stick with it, and it gets much, much better.

One more thing... The series ends on a cliffhanger. Rather annoying, but those were the days before potential DVD sales influenced season renewals.

Yeah, it took them a while for the show to find its footing, but once it did there were some very powerful episodes. Who Monitor's the Birds, Sugar Dirt, Toy Soldiers, Dear Earth, Hostile Visit and the two part finale, And if They Lay Me Down to Rest, Tell Our Mom's We Did Our Best all stick out in my mind. I'd love to have a set to replace the divx episodes I've got burned to CD.

according to epguides.com, there were 24 episodes (counting the two-hour pilot as two separate ones). depending on what kind of special features they have, it could be 6 or 7 discs. I'm hoping Fox will stick to their more recent price scheme of $59.99 retail/~$41.99 store price for the set.

Seeing as it ended on a cliffhanger, it'd be nice if there was a featurette, either an interview with the creators, or even the cast, telling us where they would have gone with the story. At least us fans would get some kind of closure.

Of course, I said the same thing for Earth 2, and someone kindly pointed me to a link where either the creator or the writer had disclosed some of their now-defunct plans, and it wasn't pretty...

Yee,

What were they planning to do with Earth 2? I also wished they would resolve what's up with John Doe! Posted Image
Bring back John Doe! Or at least resolve the cliff-hanger with a 2hr movie or as an extra on a dvd release.

Sorry, don't really remember, just that it was not promising at all. I think the thread might have been to do with TV shows that were canned after just one (or less) season, and maybe whether such shows would ever come out on DVD.

Sorry I can't give you more pointers to the thread, wherever it's buried in HTF. I suspect if you search for any thread with a post by me in this area for the last 6 months, you might finally stumble across it, but that's probably way too stuff to wade through...

It does suck that this show was cut off right when it was getting good.

I also believe it was the first time a porn star had a mainstream role in TV and not a small one, I think it may even have been re-occuring.

Been a long time since I saw this show on TV but hopefully if the DVD sales go good someone might try to pick it up where it left off.
