Fox is releasing a "best of" FAMILY GUY disc to promote Seth MacFarlane's new series AMERICAN DAD. Here's some details from the Video Business Online article:

Quote:
The Family Guy: The Freakin' Sweet Collection DVD ($19.99), featuring a preview of American Dad and an interview with MacFarlane about his latest series, will be released Dec. 14.

Disc includes five of MacFarlane's favorite episodes from the second and third seasons of Family Guy, including the original, uncensored "Road to Rhode Island" and optional commentary by MacFarlane, diabolical baby Stewie, family dog Brian and other cast and crew members.

Looks like Fox is using the uncut episode as an excuse for a double-dip.

As much as I hate double dips, I will probably pick this one up. Thanks for the news Matt.

I'll pass. The inclusion of the one Bin Laden line doesn't warrant a purchase from me. I think the average person who sees "Uncensored" on the packaging may figure there is more to this release than there really is.

I'll pick this up after the price drops a bit.

Any word on whether or not this will contain any of the other previously-edited episodes?

I don't know, but if I read the TVShowsOnDVD.com article correctly, it sounds like you will get a couple of the commentaries that Fox removed from the first release...including a Brian and Stewie one on Road to Rhode Island.

I'll probably pick this up, to have that restored...and some sneak peaks at American Dad, and a few other things it will be worth the $13 it will probably end up costing.

I don't think so, because of what I read in this interview with MacFarlane (bolding of text done by me):
IGNFF: Has there been any talk of releasing an uncensored version of the DVD sets, with the episodes uncut?

MACFARLANE: There weren't any episodes cut… The only thing that was cut was that Osama bin Laden scene.

IGNFF: They also cut out the JFK/RFK Pez Dispenser gag from an episode…

MACFARLANE: That was actually cut for the rerun of that episode, and it was because… That was one of the very few situations where we got a lot of flak for a joke, and it was kind of indefensible…

IGNFF: But it was funny…

MACFARLANE: At the same time, it was one of those rare moments where, "God, are we just doing this purely to shock people, and is this just really lame? There's a larger issue – I don't even know where the hell that footage is. I'm sure somebody has it on some 8th generation tape somewhere.

The inclusion of the one Bin Laden line doesn't warrant a purchase from me.
It is more that just one line that was cut. There's a whole scene of them going through the security checkpoint.

What was the JFK/RFK pez dispenser joke? I obviously missed that one. (But it sounds tasteless. Posted Image)

A shot goes off during a bank robbery (I think?) by accident, then you cut to two kids showing off their pez dispensers.

"I got the JFK pez dispenser!"

Then the bullet shatters the pez dispenser in the head.

Its not too bad, really. I saw it on Cartoon Network, so the lost footage couldnt be too far from missing.

The Pez sequence is intact on the R2 edition, so restoring it wouldn't be a lot of trouble at all.

I thought all the episodes were censored. Everyone talks about how funny this show is but I've watched it quite a few times and it's never made me laugh. I can only assume that the funny parts that people refer to have been edited out of every presentation of the show that I've ever seen.
Don't you ever, EVER compare me to "Family Guy," you hear me Kyle? Compare me to "Family Guy" again and so help me, I will kill you where you stand!

Do you have any idea what it's like? Everywhere I go: "Hey Cartman you must like 'Family Guy,' right?" "Hey, your sense of humor reminds me of...

Yep, I'm sure that's got to be the reason. Posted Image

Nope, but about half of the commentary tracks that were recorded weren't used.
