Hi all,

I'm having a disagreement with somebody I work with. He asserts that Direct Stream Digital(DSD)was created and tested in 1980. I believe that to be completely false.

Does anybody know what year the DSD technology was introduced and what the first studio album recorded with it was. If possible please provide a hyperlink so I have something to show him.

Thanks!

In a way you could both rationalize your positions. The technology behind DSD, Pulse Density Modulation, was probably worked on in the 80's, maybe even sooner, since PCM has been around since the late 70's. However, the technology behind DSD, as realized by Sony, began around 1991 and became available to audio professionals in 1996.
