Over dinner tonight my 14 year old son was describing a movie he had seen.

He said it was about POW's in a German prison camp who escape by making an airplane out of wood from their bunks and huts.

The airplane crash lands but the escaped prisoners make it to a rendezvous at the shore where they are ambushed by German Troops. The prisoners board a landing craft, but the guy who's idea it was to build the airplane is wounded from gunfire.

My son says he might have seen it on the history channel.

Does anybody have any idea what movie he is talking about?

Thanks in advance for your help.

This sounds a bit like "Escape of the Birdmen," (made for TV, 1971) although the ending you describe doesn't sound the same. Hopefully someone else will know.
