Recommend me some good Horror flicks please. (1 Viewer)

Ive recently been getting a craving for some good horror. Ive always liked Friday the 13th series, Both original and remake of Chainsaw Massacre (never saw the sequels), Halloween 1 and 2 (hated rest of the sequels), Changeling, Sleepaway Camp series (see sig) , Original Exorcist, and the Evil Dead series among others.

I know theres alot I havent seen; namely the Hammer films and Dario Argetno flicks.

Can you guys recommend some good scary, gory, and funny horror?

If you want a good Hammer film, try Curse of Frankenstein. Unlike Dracula, which is good but kind of slow, this one is very well-paced, Peter Cushing is great as the doctor, and the movie is meaner than the original Universal film (which I also love). Even the gore, with the bright red spurting blood, still works for me

For Dario Argento, Suspiria is still my favorite, although many people prefer Deep Red. You probably can't go wrong with either.

I agree with Andy, The Hammer Frankenstein series is great. Peter Cushing is outstanding...as always. As for other horror you absolutely have to watch Night of the Living Dead (original) and Dawn of the Dead. Zombie (aka Zombie 2) is also definitely worth a watch. Afterall, Fulci is known as the 'Gore master'. I have no idea what you've seen so I'll suggest some obvious choices:

Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde (1932)

Return of the Living Dead is a fun watch too.

I neglected to mention that I do love the Dead films as well as the Alien films as well. Im also a big Hitch fan so Psycho is one of my favs as well. Also Im in the process of trying to collect the new Universal Monsters sets to finish seeing those.

Excellent movie, Jack, but I just didn't think it fit Matt's tastes. "A Tale of Two Sisters" is also sorta in that vein, but is so exceptionally frightening/horrific/bloody that I included it. I guess "Rosemary's Baby" is similar, too, but it is to me what "The Haunting" is to you... that is, my favorite/pet classic horror flick!

If you want humor and gore you can't go wrong with Blood For Dracula and Flesh For Frankenstein

Matt, I'd ordinarily suggest some classics of the 30s and 40s, but seeing your tastes, I'd definitely recommend:

MOTHER'S DAY and MANIAC (both 1980). They've got the gore you crave, and some humor (esp. MD).

Also from '80 -- Brian DePalma's DRESSED TO KILL

without question, my all-time fave horror flick has got to be "prince of darkness". that movie is just spooky any way you cut it!

If you're after gore then you should certainly check out various Italian films.

Be warned, the two CANNIBAL flicks have real gore from animal violence so this will certainly put many people off. If you want a cannibal film without the animal violence then you could try Jess Franco's WHITE CANNIBAL QUEEN but it's a required taste considering the director.

MANIAC is the best slasher from the 1980's in my opinion. Other good ones include: SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE, SORORITY HOUSE MASSACRE 2, NAILGUN MASSACRE (horrid but gory), HOSPITAL MASSACRE and THE PROWLER, which some love but I didn't care too much for it. Then there's the classic SILENT NIGHT DEADLY NIGHT, which everyone should watch with the family on Christmas.

THE HILLS HAVE EYES is the most underrated horror film of the 1970's. There's not too much gore but I think the film is quite tense.

For good recent horror, check out May (2002).

Just one off the top of my head that you may have missed..Shock Waves(1976), Aquatic Nazi Zombies set on an isolated tropical island with Brooke Adams, Peter Cushing & John Carradine....I mean how could you go wrong?
