My friend wants a dvd-vcr combo player, does anyone have any recommendations? She was hoping to stay under $200.

Thanks

I don't have a real recommendation yet but I'm also in the market for one of these units so I'd be interested in hearing anyone's feedback. Actually, I just need a new DVD player but most of the new ones seem so flimsy that I'd be afraid to stack a VCR on top of them. So I figured I should just go with a combo unit for a little more money.

I was at first leaning towards the Toshiba SD-V392 (about $130):

but I checked the reviews in Amazon for its predecessor, the V391, and there are an awful lot of people reporting problems. I don't know if that's typical of any DVD/VCR combo player, or just Toshiba's, or just that particular model. There are no reviews that I could find for the V392.

I also noticed one by JVC (HR=XVC26U) for the same price:

but I haven't found any reviews for it.

If you go up $30 or so in price, there are models by Sony and Panasonic:

and a few others but I don't know if these are any more or less dependable than the first two.

So as I said, I'd really be interested in any comments from anyone who's used any of these models.
