Looks like it's a great HT in the making. Mind if I ask why you didn't run conduit for your wires (A/V that is)?

Looks like you have a great start! Nice sized room too. One thing that bothers me though, is that I don't see staggard studs. At this point, I think that it's really important for you to look at staggard studs, Resiliant Channel, and double sheetrock with a mastic layer. A good book to learn about all of this is, "Premium Home Theater" Design and Construction by Earl Geddes.

Looks good. Scott, I have to convert the images to links so that the thread can load faster for dialup folks.

Regarding the conduit, you have access to pull the wires from above (the attic), will you have space on the sides to pull up wire and/or pull it back down. What I am trying to find out is if you would benefit from having a conduit to bring the cabling up to the ceiling.

Staggerd studs are a common technique used to build a "room within a room". It's the single most effective way to keep sound in the theater, from transfering outside of the room. Here is link that shows a picture of how the studs should be placed:

I believe it's mainly done for sound containment, and not for acoustic reasons. Whereas, the resiliant channel, and double sheetrock with a mastic layer, is more for room acoustics in the bass region. Many of the theaters featured on Home Theater Forum use these methods. I would suggest looking through the many pictures, and contacting the one's who use this techique. You can also find out a lot info on Web using "Google", as well as from the book I mentioned.

Since your studs are already in place, it might be a bit of an expense, because you would have to add width to the bottom and top plates of your walls, and then double up on the studs.

I love watching a build-in-progress, yours is looking great!

I do have a question though: it looks like you used a faced-batting which doesn't require a vapor barrier, and then an exterior grade housewrap on the inside. Housewrap is not really a vapor barrier and is permiable, and AFAIK intended on the outside to let moisture escape. Typically a non-permiable barrier is used on the inside via faced-batting or poly. I know two vapor barriers are never recommended together as moisture could get trapped between the layers. You always want an escape path, and with stick construction you want moisture to escape outwards (buildingscience-dot-com (I still can't post links) does recommend having moisture escape inwards for below-grade construction)


FWIW www-dot-buildingscience-dot-com is a great place to see recommended construction techniques for moisture handling. (Note sub "." for the "-dot-" stuff as I can't post links yet)

sheetrocking/mudding is a mess, but after that it'll really come to life! I can barely express the joy of not looking at rough-in electrical, networking, and HVAC.

Wow - it looks very professional. Even all the studs are equal distance apart. Great job. I am still in the proces of doing mine, been about 8 months now. But I should have some updated pictures in 2 weeks. Looks sweet!
