hello,

i'm quite the newbie here and to home theater in general, and i have a simple question, i tried searching the forums for the answer, as i doubt i am the first to ask this, and no luck. so here we go, hopefully one of you guys know.

i just purchased my first surround sound system, a Sony HT-DDW660 HTIB. It is capable of playing 5.1 DTS and sounds amazing... however my question is i have a few DVDs that have 6.1 DTS tracks... will my system ignore the rear center channel and not play it at all, or will it put the rear center through both the rear speakers, along with the channels for them?

thank you for your time,
JoN

Generally when you configure your system for no rear center, DTS-ES will not be available to you. When you select an ES track, what you will get will be 5.1 with no information missing.

It is TOTALLY completely backward compatible. Unless you have things setup wrong with a 6.1/7.1 capable receiver you won't lose a thing. That you only have a 5.1 capable receiver guarantees that you won't lose any "6th" channel info. See this thread:

alright thank you very much... my reciever is set to auto detect what kind of signal it's recieving, so i would assume that it will sound good. thank you very much.
