So, with all the bundle crap that the stores are pulling, how is everyone that is getting a GameCube on launch day going to buy theirs? Are you going to preorder a bundle or just wait till release day and see if you can get one at the store? Personally, I don't want to spend $400 on the bundle, I just plan on getting Rogue Leader and maybe one other game. So, I was just planning on waiting till release day to buy. Also, is the release day on a Sunday?

Yes the release day is a Sunday. I am just going to go pickup a Cube, Rogue Leader, Luigi's Mansion, and a memory card at Midnight. I am going to go to either Super K-mart, Meijer, or Super Wal-Mart.

Corey,
Keep an eye out for online pre-orders. Especially at sites like techbargains.com which track online deals. A lot of HTFers, myself included, were able to pre-order the system alone (with or without whatever games desired) from Best Buy's web site last week. No bundles, no inflated price, no hassle.

I'm suppose to get my pre-order all set today. I'm going with the bundle ($400.00) at EB. I'll get three games (Luigi, Star Wars and Super Monkey Ball) as well as a controller and memory card. There is some other stuff (magazine subscriptions etc) included but nothing to notable.

I was at the Mariner game on Thursday and met a guy who works at Nintendo. He told me(in confidence) that they are going to come up a little short on the amount of Cube's ready for launch date (still he said there will be way more available than the XBox because he says a friend of his at Microsoft says they are going to come up about 300,000 short).
The Nintendo guy says that if you can pre-order it, do, but unless there is a guarantee you are going to get it, don't count on giving out as a Xmas present.
If you were planning on getting 2 out of 3 games in the bundle anyway, might as well preorder.

I broke down and ordered, though at my local EB since I didn't want to have to get an extra game to get the Jet Black system...
Jet Black Bundle
-Luigi's Mansion
-Rogue Leader
-Wave Racer
-Jet Black Controller (swapped the generic one for a Nintendo)
-Nintendo Memory Card
Didn't think I would do it but hey - first console purchase for me :)
btw Thanks to DanB for all the info :D

My order looks exactly the same as Jehan's, though they wouldn't let me upgrade the controller for some reason. Maybe on launch day they will have a change of heart. Other than that, I just need to get my grubbies on some controller extensions and a component cable. Does anyone know if the component cables will be available at launch?

Gary you should have no trouble returning it on launch day and exchanging for a Nintendo one. At the very least you should be able to sell it on ebay quite easily.

My order from EB is the same as the two above...but they also wouldn't let me upgrade the controller. Kinda stupid of them, since they'd get more money from me if they let me.

So what stores can I preorder the GC from. I know EB is one, are there any others. Are these preorders gauranteed to be available on release day? I don't mind buying a package because I would probably get the additional games anyway.

Jeff: you're next bet is with Amazon on the 18th - they have another batch ready to go. The last lot sold out in 1 minute though, so you better be fast :D.
As for the component cables I have asked around and details are sketchy if they will be available in time for launch - kinda sucks considering they demo the system all the time using component out on nice flat screens, yet don't have it as an option for pre-order.
These places have it for import though, price is a little steep but I may have to consider it if I can't find it here.

I preordered at EB in Seattle and went for the Jet Black, Rogue Squadron, Luigi's Mansion, and All Star Baseball. Wasn't offered an upgrade on the controller, but I'll bring that up when I pick up the Cube.

So, does anybody know what time on 10/18 that Amazon is going to offer their next pre-orders? I've checked their site a number of times the past couple weeks and I never even saw anything about the first pre-order...
Also, would the Japanese hardware available now be able to play the American games?

Amazon nevers gives the time that they'll go on sale.
Annoying, but understandable... The site would probably go under with all the hits they'd receive if people knew exactly when they'd be available.
It's kind of a crapshoot.

I preordered mine ... at Coconuts. Yup, you heard me, Coconuts Music and Video, where I sometimes get my DVD's from. I went in to get Episode I, and I saw that they were pre-ordering the X-Box bundle for $100. So I asked them about the Gamecube, since there were no signs up. And the guy asked me purple or black. So naturally, I said black :). And it wasn't a bundle. And it only cost me $10. So worse-case scenario, I'm out $10. But if they're track record is any indication (they actually had their PS2's on launch day), I'll be getting the `cube, Rouge Leader, Luigi, and possibly Wave Racer. Oh, and a memory card. I'll be there bright and early on the 18th ...

Well, it looks like I don't have to take my chances with Amazon. A local EB here still had a few preorders so I just dropped in about half an hour ago and got mine reserved.

RE: Component video cable quote: These places have it for import though, price is a little steep but I may have to consider it if I can't find it here.[/quote]NCSX only seems to carry the D-Video cable.... The other store you linked to simply calls it a "Component Cable," but doesn't provide any further details, so I suspect they are selling the same thing.
D-Video is the equivalent to component video in Japan, but not compatible with the component inputs used on North American sets (unless you have an adapter or a professional set.) It uses a plug similar to a computer monitor's VGA jack -- even though it is not VGA -- as opposed to the three RCA connectors used for Y/Pb/Pr in North America.
I hope that a component cable will be available for the November launch. My first experiences with the GameCube must be at 480p!

Cheers,
