This has been announced...more like a director's cut...and a new adjective to add to these edition naming sprees.

Universal Home Entertainent is set to release an "Explosive Extended Edition" of the Matt Damon action/thriller The Bourne Identity on July 13th.

This disc, which features both a new beginning and new ending, strangly will run the same one hour and fifty-nine minutes runtime as the original cut (how is this extended?).

This disc will feature a 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track, and the following extras... Interviews with Matt Damon entitled "From Identity To Supremacy," three featurettes ("The Bourne Mastermind," "The Bourne Diagnosis" & "Cloak And Dagger: Cover Ops"), Inside A Fight Scene: US Embassy Sequence, Deleted Scenes: Declassified Information.

***Also included will be a Free Movie Ticket for Bourne Supremacy. *** :emoji_thumbsup:

Looks very...tricked-out.

As for the same running time, it could be that the original ending and openings have simply been replaced with the "all-new" ones.

I'm not going to shell out more money for a movie where it's beginning and ending has been replaced with "all-new-ones." I'm very happy with my CE of The Bourne Identity. And to make matters worse, this "Explosive Extended Edition" has dropped the (explosive) DTS track that's on the original cut.

COUNT ME OUT.

More like Ultimate.

Will they have the original cut of this movie on there as well? Or is this simply another one of Universal's cashgrabs?

And yet there are Universal treasures like Somewhere In Time and The Deer Hunter that still have the original, atrocious transfers...

Ewww... Yeah, I don't have the DTS version, but a roommate did and it sounds amazing. I'd much prefer that to some "new beginning, new ending!" crap. You don't even know what you're getting!

Casino as well, not the transfer, but we need an SE. It would make more sense as Warner is bringing out SEs of four Scorcese's films. But of course we need a new DVD of a film that was not all that great in the first place to promote the theatrical release of the sequel.

This is probably one of the more ludicrous things I've seen to promote a sequel.

They already have an alternate ending on the first DVD as a supplement, something tells me they are just going to reintegrate that into the original film, and then put together some alternate angle of the same scene or something as the opener.

How stupid...Universal should rename themselves to Re-releasal.

I remember the "Alternate" ending being nearly identical to the original. It was just in a different location or something like that. I hate that when a DVD boasts an "Never Before Seen Alternate Ending" and it turns out to be like 2 or 3 lines of different dialog or something like that. "Die Hard with a Vengence" has a good example of a real alternate ending.

Yep, another thumbs up for the UK R2 DVD of 'The Deer Hunter'.

As for 'The Bourne Identity', like others have said, the first DVD is perfectly fine. I guess there are enough people that'll buy the 'Explosive Extended Edition'--why would Universal release it otherwise?! Repackaging, double-dipping sells.

Yeah, well I'm just saying that there are plenty of other titles Universal needs to Double Dip on before this one.
