Here's one at DVDFile

I'll be sure to picking this one up tomorrow for a nice $40 at Best Buy. I'm a bit disappointed in the lack of extras but it'll be fun to see Amy-Sherman Palladino in action. I know my friends complain about the "They talk so fast! Rory's so monotone! It's so annoying" but I love it. Though unlike the West Wing, it's not so much what they're saying is witty, they're just saying it really fast. Sometimes it's pretty darn witty. I think the reviewer at DVDFile was right on the money when he said it suceeds at much as it fails.

Got it last week, finished it over the weekend. Great show, don't find any of the episodes in season one to be clunkers at all. I just got into the show with the current season, so it was all new. I really like the rapid fire dialogue myself.

Minimal extras, but a very cheap set. I found some of the video quality to be a little sub standard, much more grain than what I see now. Since I never saw it originally, I don't know if it is meant to be that way or not.

The show looks like it went on a budget increase after season one. It just looked cheaper earlier.

I'm getting the first season eventually, but probably won't continue after that point.

I've been considering getting this as a blind buy. Can anyone confirm that the music hasn't been replaced or altered in any way due to licensing issues?

It looks to be complete musically, yes. All of the songs I'm familiar with are on there, and I've seen posts on a Gilmore Girls forum where at least one user confirmed all of the songs are present. Apparently whenever a song is played, the artist and title appear in the closed captions.

I got a real kick out of Kirk showing up early on as Mick. And in the second or third episode where they refer to Richard's mother (the first Lorelai) in the past tense.

My wife loved this show from the start, and I caught up with it the first summer when they ran it twice a week. However, I'd never seen the pilot. Very strange to see the first version of Luke's and such when I'm so used to the way it is now.

Yeah, that budget increase for the show obviously when towards gussying up Luke's Diner. It was quite a hole in the wall!

It's also interesting to see how people have changed physically. Luke was a little thinner, Lorelai just a tad as well and Rory still had a bit of the baby fat. Suki of course has lost quite a bit of weight since the beginnings and I'm glad they ditched the over-the-top clutziness of the character.

They also softened Emily up quite a bit. She looks quite severe with the shorter hair and seemingly colder make up.

I liked the new look of Luke's diner too.

according to IMDB, the entire exterior set of the town is on the Warner Bros. backlot, which is pretty impressive.

I picked up Gilmore Girls Season 1 blind yesterday and i must say i like it very much all be it i have only viewed the first 4 episodes so far. It definately reminds me somewhat of Northern Exposure which i am looking forward to getting later this month. Hopefully Season 2 is not too far off!

Me too but you gotta admit, you laughed when she tossed the towel onto the stove in the pilot.

So funny... And about Suki's weight, I know between seasons (I forget which ones) Melissa McCarthy lost about 50 pounds so the ironic thing was she had to wear pads because her character was pregnant.

I know this season was shot and broadcast in fullscreen but does anyone else know if later seasons were done in widescreen?

Kevin - the only season that I know for sure was shot in widescreen, is the current one, season 4. I haven't seen season 4 myself, but I've heard that there are shots from season 1 in the season 4 credits...which are widescreen on HDTV... so does that mean they have a widescreen version of season 1 and decided to release it on DVD in fullscreen instead for some reason? That sucks.

Practically every television show that's shot on film has been 16x9 for a few years now. It's a standard way of doing things, and it lowers costs -- at least for shows going 3-perf, that approach uses 25% less stock for the same amount of footage as 4-perf, and less film means less to pay the lab. However, just because a show is shot wide doesn't mean that's how it's intended to be seen. There may be more information, but it isn't always intended to be on display, the same way theatrical releases that are soft-matted to 1.85:1 aren't meant to have the mattes stripped off.

Exactly, the credits show the shots from season 1 in widescreen, and they look horrible. The information is all crammed into the middle, and it just looks poorly framed.

I'm personally happy with 4:3 on this show.

To add to that, I've seen two episodes from this season in widescreen, and they are exactly the same. The information is all centered in the 4:3 frame, and they're clearly not framing for 16:9.

4:3 seems to be the OAR at least through this season.

For all of the people upset that BUFFY never contains the "Previously On" headers, I'm glad they don't. It's a tad frstrating to watch these things for episodes we literally just watched. If you watch TV on DVD in blocks, like my wife and I do, then they are tiresome.

It also seems that they switched halfway through season 1 from 16mm to 35mm. Around episode 11 everything just got brighter and more detailed.

I have a feeling that might be what happened. The show saw an increase in viewers during the middle of the season, and started picking up steam at that point. The budget might have increased a bit at that point.
