I just got the Panasonic XP30 dvd player. The display is very hard to read from my couch, with the lighted grey background. Can this be adjusted?

Ricky, You've found one of the few flaws with the XP30/50 design. Forget about reading the display. I just set the dimmer to "Off" in the menu and it only lights up when powered on.

Yes, just set the display for OFF or Auto. Use the on-screen info.

I do the same with my xp-30. Set to auto and the display is off when watching dvds and on with cds... Hope you enjoy your xp-30. Maybe the best dvd performance value ever?

I have my player set on auto too. Oh yeah I use RP82 but oh well, unless the actual display has an issue, you can get a replacement part and pluck it in to see if it may help out.
