Matt, it's on the Donovan tribute album (CD), DONOVAN ISLAND OF CIRCLES, Nettwork, (W2-30075). I'd bet it's long out of print.

Looks like some tasty dishes there!

This isn't a cover, is it? I'm pretty sure His Bobness wrote "The Mighty Quinn". Mannfred Mann's Earth Band did a well-known cover.

Craig, you're right. :b I'm gonna replace it with another tune off of SELF PORTRAIT, or maybe Manfred Mann's...? ...or, something that fits in the time allotment.:)

Kool idea! I cd' some funny old 45's a while back. You know, Unicorn by The Irishman, Snoopy Versus the Red Barron by(?) Saturday Morning Confusion by (?) Sorry. Drew a blank on those two. And a few others. Lots of fun. Specially for the niece and nephew (and me too). My next disc will be songs I like, but no one else does. BTW, how do you explain all that stereo stuff in the kitchen? Gene

Gene, I love 45's. I once had 3000 of them. I used to buy them for ten cents when they left jukeboxes and some new ones too, of course. Then I started selling them to folks who had private jukeboxes and now I'm down to about 800 or less, I think. I have enough that I can't find my mono single of the Rolling Stones' Posion Ivy right now. I used to have the lot in alphabetical order and could find anything fast. When I moved last year they got shuffled. There's a project.

I finished another disc, #5 Re-Covered .

1. The Marketts- Batman Theme
2. Vanilla Fudge- You keep me hanging on
3. Spooky Tooth- Society's Child
4. Joan Jett- Tush
5. Free- The Hunter
6. The Posies- The River Song
7. Friends Of Dean Martinez- The Warmth Of The Sun
8. Linda Ronstdat- In My Reply
9. Livingston Taylor- Six Days On The Road
10. Robert Cray- Love Struck Baby
11. Santana- She's Not There
12. Rickie Lee Jones- The Low Spark Of High Heeled boys
13. Joan Jett- Pretty Vacant
14. Ramones- Time Has Comne Today
15. Jeff Beck Group- You Shook Me
16. Leon Russell- Act Naturally
17. Lyle Lovett - Friend Of The Devil
18. Rolling Stones- Around And Around
19. Aerosmith- Big Ten Inch Record
20. Bryan Ferry- It's All Over Now Baby Blue
21. The Beatles- Twist and Shout
22. T-Bones- Everybody's Gone To The Moon

I've started another one too. That may be the last or not? I always keep thinking of one more song.....

3000!!! I don't think I've had 3000 of anything. Well, maybe baseball cards. I knew a kid in the 60's who's father had 4-5000 albums but we couldn't go anywhere near them. BTW, where are you getting all these songs? From the net or your private collection? Gene

Gene, out of my collection. I have several thousands of records, all sizes, and quite a few CD's too. I don't record much off the net, some, but not much.:)

Rachael, how far will you go? :D

Personally, I've made cd's of Originals (the unknown earlier recordings), and Answer songs, as well as a few covers.

Somewhere I've got a tape made from really old 45's from a stash someone loaned me, gems with a warm veneer of crackling and popping. I had an equalizer or something, and got the sound as lo-fi as I could with a "mute" control.

pS to gene - "Snoopy", probably by the Royal Guardsmen, and "Saturday morning confusion" probably by Bobby Russell

PS to Rachael - I didn't see Memphis Soul Stew in the brew, even if it was not a "cover" it would season the compilation dish :)

John, who did Memphis Soul Stew? That sounds vaguely like I should remember it. I could do one of these thingies that concentrated on the Memphis & Muscle Shoals sound. Oh, I'd proably move away from covers for that despite the fact that those artists routinely did loads of covers.

I think I could proably, easily make a dozen of these cover discs but I'm proably gonna stop at 7 or 8...? I've finished 6 and stille have a pile of recordings in wait.:)

Actually, I assumed you knew, since it's by King Curtis who leads off your first disk. :)

I first had it on his live album, as reissued by Atlantic in the 80's, but now I have it on the Razor & Tie "Instant Soul" CD.

I'm old enough to have found that many hit songs I loved were (as it turned out) covers of much earlier songs.

I have previously raved here about "Beyond the Blue Horizon" by Lou Christie, which I first heard from the soundtrack of RAIN MAN. The song goes way back to the 1920s but Lou Christie's version was my first exposure, and I still put it on a lot of compilations.

I did something like this for Jimmy Webb and Laura Nyra. I took 5 or 6 songs by each songwriter and would burn a copy sung by the songwriter and then a popular version of each song. It was a lot fun, also.

John, right now, as fas as I can remember, Whole Lotta Love is the only King Curtis track I have. I got it on a Rhino instumentals various album. It inspired me to order a King Curtis CD and I had one in my basket to purchase one day last year. Then, the power went out and I forgot about him for awhile, till I decided to make these recordings. I will pick up some more music by him. He sounds like my kind of music so far! Actually, I have heard a few pieces by him over the years and liked them. I used to listen to black radio stations alot back when he got played. Given my collecting addiction, it quite suprising that I don't have a vinyl or a CD of him yet!

I take that back about that being the only King Curtis cut that I have. There's another one on one of my many sampler albums. I can get lost in my own collection! There could be more? I must have 150 or more various artists albums on vinyl and CD. I've long since lost track/s;) auf eberrythang un 'dem! Sum thymes I's jist hab tu vista por mi's persona!;) My brother-in-law says I'm a minor-major network.

There are songs that are so good, soothing, or have whatever, exactly "it" is. One song that's been a hit many times, 3 or more (?) times, is ALWAYS. My mom said is was a hit way back when, Patsy Cline did it for a big hit. That's the one I like. I think it was a hit again a few years ago...?

Think about some other songs that seem on that track, Yesterday by The Insects, This Masguerade by Leon Russell,....what's the one by Billy Joel that he refused to perform anymore...? Just The Way You Are??? It's funny what songs actually end up perpetuating. Some folks were chating on this form sum whilst back about Beck's SEA CHANGE album becoming a renowned and timeless classic. I didn't type in but I thought fat chance! But, then one never knows. Some chick with a sexy voice might turn one of Beck's songs into a timeless recurring hit, classic? You can't never tell what will get covered! Best wishes! :)
