Great news; Like Seinfeld, this show took a couple of seasons before it really picked up, so don't judge it based on Season One.

Just a quick question, why does people watch this show? I've seen a few episodes and they all seem the same. Raymond lives across the street from his parents, they make his life miserable and in the end he doesn't get what he wants. It's a miracle it's been on for so long...

I don't know what AITF stands for. What I meant is that the characters stay the same. Marie has no social antennas and Frank is an ass. Except for Raymond's brother, all the characters are in the same place they were when the show started. The whole joke gets kinda stale after such a long time...

I've seen a few episodes of All in the Family and they all seem the same. Mike and Gloria live with his parents. They're liberal, the father's a right-wing nut and the mother is a dingbat. Every episode is basically the same. The liberal son-in-law does something that irritates the conservative father and there's lots of yelling. It's a miracle it went on for so long...

Of course I don't feel this way about All in the Family any more than I do about Everybody Loves Raymond. My point is that every sitcom is just that - a situation comedy, and the basic situation and characters stay pretty much the same. To say that that makes every episode the same doesn't make a lot of sense in my opinion.

It took a few years until I actually sparked an interest for this show.........ok, it wasn't untill it hit syndication that I sparked an interest. lol. Either way, I enjoy it. I somewhat agree with the fact that most episodes seem the same, but in truth, each makes me laugh just the same. I get a kick out of the flashback episodes in particular. I'll be picking this up in a heartbeat.

Can someone give me their opinion(s) of the first season of "ELR"? Was it a "good/avg./poor" rookie campaign in 1996-1997? I don't think I've seen any of the first episodes.

I'd say average - it was pretty low-key compared to the later episodes, Debra was a lot nicer, the parents weren't as mean. It also wasn't nearly as funny. But a lot of shows don't hit their mark right away.
