Midnight Cowboy has an amazing soundtrack thanks mostly to John Barry. What's New Pussycat is a great early Bacharach endeavor. I mostly bought it for Warwick's "Here I Am" which is fantastic but I've grown to love most if not all of it. I guess I'm really into my 60's soundtrack phase.

another vote for : Naked Lunch (very acid jazz)

Clockwork Orange

I also like the 2 cds of Twin Peaks music.

I used to own One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, but sold it...

Last I bought was the one created to coincide with the DVD of "The Day The Earth Stood Still" Terrif!

I hate "soundtrack cds" that are not accurate or representative of the music heard in a film, as when tracks are missing, or not in the order of appearance in the films.

Eg, The Crying Game, Blue Velvet, Wild Palms, etc.

What a coincidence- I never buy soundtrack music, but I got an order from Columia House yesterday which included the soundtrack to Amadeus.

I also have Blues Brothers, Superfly and 2 South Park CDs.

Well John, better to have something than nothing is what I believe. Unfortunately all soundtracks don't get the Star Wars special edition soundtrack treatment with entire musical scores in order and missing or alternate cues to boot. Only a select few movie soundtracks, usually classic movie scores, get so much time and money spent on them to provide a complete listening experience.

The great thing about just about any soundtrack is that it features only the music unhindered by dialogue, sound effects, or editing(usually). Sometimes a movie will have a fantastic soundtrack but you can't tell until you actually listen to the soundtrack album because the music played at low volumes in the movie.

I absolutely love soundtracks and it's often the first section I hit in any record store. I never know what gem I might come across. Like the What's New Pussycat? soundtrack I recently picked up. Besides the great music it's an enhanced CD that features a movie clip if played on your computer. The LOTR soundtracks have extra stuff like that too. Two Towers soundtrack has cool wallpapers and other stuff. I'm glad they remastered all the Bond soundtracks too. That opened the way to make the new 5.1 mixes of all the Bond movies that will eventually hit stores.

I am a big fan of score soundtrack music. It is my classical music. I have around 100 soundtrack CDs. Seabiscuit is my latest acquisition.

Speaking of classical music, I don't think I would have gained such a deep love and appreciation for classical music had it not been for my initial exposure to movie soundtracks, in particular Star Wars, which I first got back in 1978.

Or at least it would have taken much longer for me to finally arrive at listening to classical music had I not first listened to some wonderful film scores. Also, most of the time now I'm able to identify classical music influences on certain film scores and composers.

Not at all, John. Disney film's have produced some wonderful scores - everything from John Barry's Black Hole in the 80's to Michael Giacchino's The Incredibles and Thomas Newman's superb Finding Nemo and WALL*E Scores have a place on my shelf!

I'm really digging the Inception sound track. But am I wrong or is it missing what's considered the 'Main Theme'? The closest seems to be the last 30 seconds on 'Waiting for a train' but that's not what most people are going to recognize, the music from the trailer.

John - did the soundtrack to Step Up 3D have any cues from Bear McCreary's score on it?
