tick-TOCK-tick-TOCK!

Looks like Sherry has told one white lie too many, and may really screw David over in terms of re-election when this all comes out. Really cool to see Nina pull a resurrection ala Season 2 jack and make a daring escape. And best of all it's finally over - Ding dong, the bitch is dead! Also wanted to mention this might not look so hot for Jack considering he wasn't exactly cleared of his shaky status in CTU yet.

Great episode! :emoji_thumbsup: :emoji_thumbsup: :emoji_thumbsup:

Did you notice in the preview for next week they show a view from the security camera behind Jack in the room where he smoked Nina. It looks like his body was between the camera and her hand that was reaching for the gun. Wonder how he is going to explain his way out of this one..

Damn Gregg, you beat me while I was creating the same thread.

Oh yeah, finally something good, something really, really good. All I can say is it's about time.

So here's something I don't understand. Just because a guy is rich and powerful, does that mean there'll be an investigation into his death when it was of natural causes? It's not like an autopsy will point to an argument leading to his heart attack. All his wife has to say is that she thought he was up late working, end of story. While there might be evidence, such as phone logs or video footage, why would anyone go looking for it? This looks like last seasons "we have only a few hours to launch the attack or our casualties will increase 10 fold" storyline.

And damn, that girl playing Chloe just can't act.

Big spoiler ahead, don't read if you haven't watched the episode yet:

Thank god Nina is finally dead. I'm so glad Jack killed her. I'd say three shots point blank, plus the earlier shot and the severed artery should kill even her. I don't even think Jack could survive that. She was a good villain, but her story was running long and needed to end.

Could Tony have HIV. There was a point made of Tony's neck bleeding and then he is later seen covered in "somebody's" blood. Transmission would be unlikely, but..........

That's exactly what I was thinking, Chucky. When Kim walked into the room and spotted Nina messing around in the back, I felt a sense of deja vu.

And one other thing. Is that whole subplot with Palmer's now ex-girlfriend and her psycho ex-husband finished? Why devote all those episodes to this storyline if there's no payoff?

Well, she is a doctor, maybe she will be called in to help cover up the Miliken situation in some way

Au contraire, her character is completely asocial. I'm not sure that's a word - I don't mean "anti-"social, but she's got very little ability being face to face with people. That's why her welcome back to Jack was so awkward and from a distance. The actress is doing just fine.

I thought for a minute the baby was there to become a hostage for Nina.

Looks like the network censors were at work in the Nina scene. Tony might not have gotten HIV from the blood because he may very well have been lying when he fed her that line about what was in the guy's medical report.

Good fear in this episode. I was sure that Nina was going to "do in" Tony - maybe by strangling him and causing his wound to open up again. Very tense. Of course the tense music cues helped.

Everybody dies! Only Jack survives! YES! YES! YESSSSSSSS!

Great episode, especially Nina buying it in what looked like the same room she offed Teri in. And it was nice how Jack kinda took a moment to reflect on how much he was going to enjoy killing Nina.

And Chappelle? Is he getting on Jack's good side now? I am actually starting to like Chappelle, which scares me. And it was also nice seeing Jeanette Goldstein(or however....Vasquez from Aliens) back into something.

Now whats left? It seems like they are tying up LOTS of loose threads from earlier seasons now. Nina is gone. Sherry is digging her own grave and at the same time maybe bringing about Davids undoing. And if the spoilers for next weeks episode are truethen Michelle gets caught in the hotel with the virus. Not exactly a loose end, but giving a lot of closure this season so far.

Am I the only one who thought the final showdown between Jack and Nina was a disappontment/let down? Maybe it was because we didn't expect this to be her last episode, but I don't know. It just felt abrupt. I don't understand how she escaped from the gurnie (sp) and I guess I just thought their final showdown would come down to one of the last few episodes.

I think the HIV comment was a ploy also. The way he started that conversation seemed like it was done on purpose. Also, he had a bandage on and blood was coming out of the wound, I doubt there's much risk that her blood would actually enter it.

Perhaps. So lets assume she has issues in dealing with people. That still makes her character's position all the more implausible. Let's see, she's Jack's secretary, Chase's daycare provider, "audio stream filter" specialist, and computer worm killer. One would think "working and playing well with others" would be a factor in obtaining such a job in a high stress, high security environment where teamwork is important.

Nope, I liked it. It was somewhat simple. No real big showdown, Jack got her in a bad spot and offed her. Sometimes it's nice not to have everything end in big cliff hanger style moments. It would have been predictable if she had captured Kim and used her as a hostage to get away so she could appear in season 4. This was a nice twist from some of the patterns 24 has fallen into.

^^Yeah, but that's not what I mean. I expected her to die this season, so I'm not surprised in that, but in the way she died. I mean, how in the world did she escape and kill all of those people. Jack coming in and pretty much just killing her. Sure, I guess it was cool to see him do it, but for such a significant and hated character as Nina for three years, it would seem like the stakes behind the showdown would be more important. In this, Jack just happens to be there in the nick of time.

I don't know, I guess I just expected something more. Not like some Bauer/Drazen-esque shoot out of season one. But something--can't quite put it into words I suppose.

I'm really glad they didn't play it up like a super-big event. This way, it had a little bit of a surprise element without feeling like a typical setup 24-esque ending payoff.

That being said...I probably would have been happy with a Drazen-like bigass showdown too. What can I say...when it's Jack offing Nina, I'm pretty easy to please ;)

I really liked this weeks episode. After the slow start to the season, all the shit is really hitting the fan now. I was also really glad to see Jeanette Goldstein and Michael Bolten from office space again.

Mike M, I don't think she was tied to the gurney. When they showed her hand subtly clasping the IV tube, that was the tube in which they were applying her anesthesia. She then pretended to go to sleep from the anesthesia (though in reality she'd kept it from entering her system by clasping the tube). She probably waited a few moments for the doctor to have a table full of scalpels at the ready, which she then grabbed ...and the aftermath you saw.

I agree the showdown with Nina was not the payoff I expected. I expected that Kim would finally show that her father's encouragement from last season (when he told her to fire at the murderous father) would at last pay off in that moment. And finally we'd see a storyteller's motivation for why on Earth Kim was written to work at CTU. It would have made sense.

Well I'd suspect Jack selected her precisely because he figured she would not be able to "read" him as he was trying to hide his addiction. But as for being "Chase's daycare provider" that is completely unbelievable for the reason you stated. On the other hand, being a genius with particular skills (computer stuff) more than makes up for being socially odd, when it comes to hiring the best.

Anyone else want to see a spin off series that takes place in the past, when Nina was still alive? Starring Nina? The bad-gal perspective? It could end at about the time she joined CTU.

Awww. :emoji_thumbsup: :emoji_thumbsup: coldblooded Thanks Jack!

What's his kill count?

WillG: About S2's whisper:
spoilers just to be safe:
I remember that scene, I believe that he said (and this is just from memory) "You've made me very angry"

Had the captions on when I saw the episode live.

I was sorta hoping for Kim to kill her. Use her skills from S2.

Heh. I guess Thomas was talking about how she basically kicked the father's ass in the parking lot and then emptied a gun into him with Jack's encouragement. I kind of like that she couldn't shoot Nina on her own, though. Just wasn't in her, and that's okay - that Jack is capable of it makes him more than a little bit scary.

(I think that's also why Chappelle stuck up for him - he doesn't like Jack, and probably considers Jack insanely dangerous, and rightfully so, but would rather have that danger working for him and CTU, and certainly doesn't want to have to hire another Jack)

I really liked Chloe this week, too. Actually, I've liked her all along; it's often fun to have a character who just doesn't get normal human interaction. And she nailed Chase with the sarcasm ("no, I think she's kind of pissed").

One of the things I really dug was how the femme fatales have really been pushed to the brink these past couple of weeks. I don't think Nina quite realized that she was surrounded by people who wanted to kill her as she was brought into CTU, and even if she left a nasty trail on the way to that back room, she was clearly desperate, for really the first time.

Sherri Palmer - well, she pretty much ended David's Presidency there. There's no way Gina Torres's character doesn't talk, and by the time the press gets hold of her story, and finds out that David had called her in to do some dirty work... Well, with only six months to the election, I don't see any way out of it for Palmer.

Also, can I put in a vote for Bryan Spicer being the main director next season? He's not Stephen Hopkins, but I think he's better than John Cassar, and these past couple weeks have been pretty darn suspenseful. He's also really good at the 24 style - jumping to and from split-screens, shooting through windows, sometimes focusing on a character to make you wonder if there's some significance to him that you're missing, or moving the camera to a different vantage point near the beginning of a scene. It gives the show a distinct look, and really adds to the "fly on the wall" feeling, that you're there with the characters, that it's happening, and not something meticulously constructed.
