Very excellent news. I am very excited about Trainspotting and Cop Land. I've never seen the other one, but might consider buying it if I hear enough good things about it.
I definetly need to hear more details on trainspotting. The current R1 release has a good tranfer for non-anamorphic and contains the uncut version of the film but is mislabeled as R rated.
Since Disney does not release unrated movies I fear they will correct their previous mistake and release the R rated cut. I was about to buy the R2 pal release but I would rather have the R1 if it contains the same cut of the film and extras.
Same as Benson, I need to hear more, but surely would like an anamorphic version.
I'm a bit confused: the version I have is the Canadian Alliance Atlantis - Miramax one, released in 2002, that's already called a "Collector's Edition". It's marked as rated 18A, which I think is the same as R, and runs 94 minutes. Does it sound like the uncut version? I have seen longer running times quoted, but I think were an error; DVD run time matches U.S. theatrical release time it seems.
According to the Rewind Comparison Database, both the current US and Canadian releases are uncut. I am delighted with the R2 Definitive Edition, so I can only hope that's what Miramax is planning to release here. If it's anything less, I'd still go with the R2.
Man, it's about time. Trainspotting was one of my first DVD's, and the movie never gets old.
I wonder if the extras will also discuss how the sequel "Porno" was pretty much canceled after Ewan declined to reprise his role as Renton. No big loss, actually--I like Trainspotting as it's left off, but I think it'd be interesting to hear about..
My biggest LD holdouts are Trainspotting and Dazed and Confused because neither offered as much as the LD, despite the improved resolution of 480p DVD, due to limited soundtracks, content and non-anamorphic enhancement. I've been waiting for both films to hit DVD in a kick-ass package.
As my fellow Livonian mentioned, the Canadian Alliance DVD has at least one of the cuts from the US R-Rated version. In the "First shag in ages" sequence, a brief shot of Kelly MacDonald reaching between her legs is replaced with a pan across the crowd at the Soccer game on the television. It is a frame for frame replacement, so the audio and running time are not affected. The featureless US release has the unrated version as previously mentioned.
