Cary Grant just had his 100th birthday a couple of weeks ago, and I've been meaning to run this tourney in his honor, but haven't gotten around to it.

The tournament will have 32 films, but I really don't want to have to go through a long drawn out nomination process, so...

I've provisionally stuck in 27 films. That leaves five openings. Everyone has 1 nomination and 1 second. However, if 6 or more films get nominated and seconded, I will replace some of my 27 to make room. I'll leave this open until Tuesday night, and will start the tourney on Wed. morning. If less than 5 get seconded, I'll second some of the noms myself to get to 32, and if less than 5 get nominated, I'll put in the rest myself.

Provisionally in:

Affair to Remember, An
Arsenic and Old Lace
Awful Truth, The
Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer, The
Bishop's Wife, The
Bringing Up Baby
Charade
Every Girl Should Be Married
Father Goose
Gunga Din
Holiday
Houseboat
I Was a Male War Bride
In Name Only
Indiscreet
Monkey Business
Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House
North by Northwest
Notorious
Once Upon a Honeymoon
Operation Petticoat
Philadelphia Story, The
Suspicion
Talk of the Town, The
That Touch of Mink
To Catch a Thief
Topper (1937)

OK,

I'm sticking in some additional films so that all 32 are films I've seen, meaning I can break any ties.

The final list:

Affair to Remember, An
Arsenic and Old Lace
Awful Truth, The
Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer, The
Bishop's Wife, The
Bringing Up Baby
Charade
Every Girl Should Be Married
Father Goose
Grass Is Greener, The
Gunga Din
His Girl Friday
Holiday
Houseboat
I Was a Male War Bride
In Name Only
Indiscreet
Monkey Business
Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House
None But The Lonely Heart
North by Northwest
Notorious
Once Upon a Honeymoon
Only Angels Have Wings
Operation Petticoat
Philadelphia Story, The
Suspicion
Talk of the Town, The
That Touch of Mink
To Catch a Thief
Topper (1937)
Walk, Don't Run

Match-ups will be random.

Up first,

North by Northwest vs. None But the Lonely Heart

None But the Lonely Heart is one of Grant's serious dramatic roles. It won him one of only 2 best actor nominations.

In any case I'll break the tie for North by Northwest.

Next,

Suspicion vs. Gunga Din

I'm hoping that there will be less abstaining as we progress to the later rounds. I think I've seen more Cary Grant films than most people (I've sort of made it a point to see most of his and Bogart's films - I say most because I'm not really worried about their very early, hence atypical, films).
