It doesn't say whether it's stereo or multi-channel. Anybody know?

Answered my own question - it's got a 5.1 layer:

I just ordered it from Amazon.UK as well. The total price with Airmail shipping to the US was only $22. Not bad.

That looks like the cheapest place to get it. I wonder why it's so inexpensive there, even a few pounds cheaper than most of their single disc SACDs...

Got it today. First thing I noticed was the sucky packaging. They've got the discs stacked on top of each other. I popped in disc 1 to play one of my fave tracks, Sacred (Track 4). Sounds pretty good in 5.1 until about a minute or so in when it suddenly stopped playing and the player's counter went nuts flashing track number's 4-8 continually. I took the disc out and looked at it and it's mint. My player is the Sony 685 and was just cleaned. I almost never have any problems with any kind of disc on it and the few times I have it cleared right up with a cleaning. Not so in this case. A second attempt yielded the same results. Posted Image I just played Blasphemous Rumours (Track 6) and it played perfectly. I'll report back after I've listened to more songs, including disc 2. I hope this isn't a manufacturing defect like it appears to be.

Same problem here. At the 1:21 mark of track 4, it skips ahead to about the minute mark of track 5. No scratches or anything. Also, track 5 doesn't play except beginning at about the same minute mark. I'm using a Pioneer 563.

CD layer works fine in all the sources I've tried.

Mine arrived yesterday and I've listened to the stereo SACD layer twice and the Redbook layer once with no problems whatsoever.

BUT, I just played track 4 in multichannel on my Denon 5900 and experienced the skipping issue. It jumped forward to 4 seconds into track 6 though, not track 5. If I attempt to go directly to track 5 the player freaks out and jumps forward to track 9. Close inspection of the disc revealed no scratches or marks of any kind. It appears this title definitely has a manufacturing or authoring defect on the multichannel SACD layer. Great.

As for the packaging, it doesn't bother me. Allison Krauss + Union Station Live uses the same case and it works just fine.

I don't understand why we are seeing this release on SACD, isn't Rhino who release the DVD Video version?

North American rights have nothing to do with the UK release of this disc. Rights are different in different regions.

As for the defect, mute uk has set up this site for this problem. My copy skips as well

Amazon.uk credited my account for the botched discs, but they're not asking for them back. In their CS e-mail, they mentioned I might want to give it to charity. Yeah, I'm sure my local Goodwill store will want this...

Anyone get ahold of a corrected copy; and if so, from where?

I just emailed them today and am not very hopeful based on their response:

Dear Customer

Thank you for contacting Amazon.co.uk with your enquiry.

SACD, or Super Audio CD, is a new high-resolution compact disc format
which boasts significant improvements in frequency response and
dynamic range over standard audio CDs.

Every SACD player is fully compatible with every audio CD. However,
a standard CD player can play only dual-layer, or "hybrid" SACDs,
which include both a high-density SACD layer and a standard-density CD
layer so as to be compatible with both old and new CD players.

We currently offer a limited number of SACDs in our online Music
store. Conducting a keyword search for "sacd" or "super audio" will
bring up the titles that are available. Some SACDs contain only the
single high-density layer and are not compatible with standard audio
CD players, and I should caution you that our website does not
currently specify whether a particular SACD title is single-layer or
hybrid. Therefore, it is possible that some of these titles will not
be compatible with standard CD players.

Our returns guarantee means that if for any reason you are unhappy
with your CD purchase you may return it to us in its original unopened
condition within 30 days. Please note that we can only accept returns
of items that have been opened if they are defective.

We will issue a full refund for the price of any CD you return that
meets these conditions. If you wish to view further information online
about our returns policy, please visit our Help Desk at the following
link:

We hope you find this information helpful. Thank you for shopping at
Amazon.co.uk.

Here's what they wrote to me; I mentioned the website of Mute's press release regarding the flawed discs - http://101sacd.depechemode.com/ - in requesting a refund.

Dear Customer

Thank you for contacting Amazon.co.uk.

First, let me apologise for the condition in which this item arrived.

I have requested a refund to your payment card in the amount of 12.43
GBP. You should see this credited to your account on your next
statement.

On the date the refund is completed, we'll send you an e-mail message
confirming the date, amount and payment details. Completed refunds
information can also be viewed when you visit Your Account. Under
Where's My Stuff? click "Go" next to "Open and recently dispatched
orders" and sign in with your e-mail address and password. The refund
information will be visible at the bottom of the relevant order's
summary page.

As the cost of return of the package is prohibitively expensive in
this case, we ask that you keep the item with our compliments. Perhaps
you would like to donate it to a charity in your area if you feel it
would be appropriate to do so.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you. Thank you
for shopping at Amazon.co.uk.
