I finally got "Band of Brothers" on DVD today. Although, I think the tin case is kind of cool looking, I was hoping for a proper box set inside ala "Sopranos". No suck luck.

Was the tin packaging a limited edition? Were there any other forms of packaging available? I just hate the fact that I can't store it on my shelf with my other DVD's. It's just too big and clunky.

There's a simple cardboard version available in the UK I believe (I'd swear I saw it last time I was in HMV) but since you don't live in the UK and you already have the set on DVD I would imagine your best option is DVD Coverart as Nick suggests.

There's always the breathtaking Korean Limited Edition Military package, readily available from Yes Asia, which has the DVDs in a canvas case along with notebooks, maps, dog tags and the like. 1.6 kg!

That Korean packaging is amazing, but I really love the tin the American version came in. I was surprised that it fit on my shelves. I'm glad it did, though. Very elegant.

I might buy the Korean version just for all that cool stuff, how come we did not get that? I do agree though. The BOB tin case is on of the coolest packaging I have ever seen for dvd's. I saw a guy nominate it for dvd packaging of the year, too bad he is a year late. And it fits perfeclty in my dvd drawers along with all my other box sets. I get to watch episodes 8-10 for the 5th time tonight! Can't wait. I finally got my in laws into it and they can't get enough of it, we just started watching the series last Friday and will finish it tonight. Not too bad, 10 episodes in a week. IMO, this is easily the best WWII movie ever made.

It's worth keeping an eye on the Korean releases of Western stuff as they are often amazing - like the Dances With Wolves 4 disk leather case edition (superior to the similar Japanese one and a lot cheaper!) and The Two Towers film tin; I believe there is a very smart Dogville edition just out.

I actually just started watching this for the first time yesterday. I made it through the first 4 episodes. Very entertaining. I've never felt my heart beat so fast for 4 hours straight.

Just wait until the guys make it to Bastogne. Some of the most exhilirating and moving TV you will ever see.

Wow, that Korean Box set looks amazing. I am surprised we didn't get that over here. I almost wish I didn't buy this one first. I really don't want to download covers for large sets, it just doesn't look right. If I lay the tin flat (not standing straight), it sort of fits my shelf...just looks awkard. I suppose I'll live with that.

Do you guys keep the paper wrap that wraps around the tin? It looks kind of cool, but I ripped the back of mine while removing the anti theft thingy.

I know this may be blasphemy to many of us here, but I think this extraordinary set deserves a spot separate from the rest of your collection, facing front, not just to be mixed in with all the other spines. Display it proudly and prominently!!!

Hmmm...a "box set shelf" ...that's a very cool idea.

I keep my TV/Music DVDs seperate from my Movie DVDs, but never considered a box set shelf. I certainly have enough to merit it.

Mine is the only DVD on my shelves that is not alphabetized. It's at the end (after Zulu). Makes for a perfect bookend. Prior to buying BoB I had to use a bookend to prevent the domino effect from happening.

I just got this as well, having not seen it on tv. I think the tin case looks sort of cool, but I always hate these "fold-out" box-sets like are used for many tv series. When doing a set with lots of dvds, I would much rather studios released the set in the vein of the alias or firefly sets from this year rather than the "fold-out," so I don't have to open this huge thing to get to the dvd I want.

Something to consider if buying the Korean release is it DOES NOT contain a DTS track, but has a Korean 5.1 in place of it. It still keeps the English 5.1 track available on the other releases. Also, the set is limited to 6,000 copies.

If you really want to get the ultimate collectable to go along with your copy of Band of Brothers, try going to this site www.odcmp.com , joining, qualifying, and holding the real thing that helped liberate Europe from the Nazis. WWII era "service grade" M1 Garands are available for $500 if you put in the effort to qualify (it's not very difficult). These are no "replicas": these are the real thing held by brave men as they cleared Europe of tyrany. The CMP is an organization celebrating its centennial this year as organization chartered by Congress to serve as the reserve of the reserves. Bayonets are available for $25 from www.southernohiogun.com .

I have the tin, but would gladly upgrade to the Korean version. Ok, DTS is gone, but you get what all HBO releases lack: subtitles.

(I know, subtitles aren't that important to most people, but English is not my native tongue and the military lingo is sometimes difficult to understand.)

Man, that is one complete package. Wow.

I visited YesAsia site to order a copy of the Korean Limited Edition Military package, but they don't list it under the Military DVD titles. Anyone know where to find this on the Yes Asia site, or another Asian online shop?

You can find it here.

(You have to look in the Western Entertainment section.)

Mine is on its way!

Great deal, too. I've gone ahead and ordered Band of Brothers, that nice leather DTS-tracked Dances with Wolves package and Dogville. They top 3 buys off with a free movie. Not a very good one, but free. Also, guaranteed no taxes when importing to Europe. That's sweet! untill now only Dv-depot (Canada) was guaranteed tax free, because they just lie on the shipping notice, stating the content as software samples with a very low value. Fools 'em every time ;)
