Patrick,

You listed 6 movies for 1925 and the Gold Rush wasn't one of them? I've had people disagree with me that it's the best silent film ever made, but I never before heard anyone say there were 6 better silent films just in that one year. Posted Image

Well it was off the top of my head. And Unforgiven was a great movie, and not at all a bad choice (surprisingly). But I guess I'd replace it with Aladdin (which has become retrospectively bashed quite a bit around here, but remains one of the best of the Disney films, IMO).

It was almost impossible to settle on one film in any given year. If you just *have* to have my top pick the leftmost pick per year is the top choice. I chose to stop at 1938 as I haven't seen that many titles prior to that year. 2002 25th Hour / LOTR: TTT 2001 A.I. Artificial Intelligence / Mulholland Dr. / LOTR: FOTR 2000 Almost Famous / Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon 1999 Magnolia / The Matrix / Eyes Wide Shut 1998 The Horse Whisperer / Gods and Monsters / Dark City / Elizabeth 1997 The Sweet Hereafter / Eve's Bayou / L.A. Of course this is just pretty much a guess—I’m not that big on ‘best’. F**k! How could I forget Dune (1984)? Don't answer that. Posted Image

Good one, Steve. Despite its flaws, one of my favorite guilty pleasures of all time. I must have watched this film once a month for the first 3 or 4 years after it was released to home video. Never did manage to snag the Japanese LD version, and I can't seem to recall if I had the MCA Universal widescreen LD or not.

- Walter.

Fidelity to the source should always be the goal for Blu-ray releases.

Posted Image Dune is my ultimate guilty pleasure Walter. No one seems to like it, even the director. And I've watched it countless times.:b

George: I've only seen the 1942 re-release of The Gold Rush. It's enjoyable, but it's not one of my favorites. My view may change when I purchase the MK2-WHV DVD of the '25 version.

The 1925 version is light years better.

"Subtitles good. Hollywood bad." - Tarzan, Sight & Sound 2012 voter.
