Okay maybe someone can give me a definite answer on this. I have heard that the same s-video cable can be used on both the ps1 and ps2. Following the same line of reasoning, can a component cable from a ps2 be used with a ps1 since they theoretically have the same connector for the video cables? Thanks for any helpful info you may have.

Steve,

My thoughts would be that if the connector is the same then you should have no problem using the component video connection for the PS1.

I'll give it a shot tonight and I'll report back.

Component cable won't work on PS1. No component pins on the AV port. You might get interlaced RGB with that cable.

I have the old PlayStation 1 s-video cable, and it works perfectly with the PS2.

As for component cables, I had the original PS where each rca cable went into its own rca jack, it wasn't "in-one" like they are now. Assuming the newer playstations, or PS1 had the same kind of connector as the PS2, my guess is they'd be backward compatable.

Edit:
But why bother with component cables from the PS1? PS2 comes with its own set.
