Which calibration disc? (1 Viewer)

I'm just starting to set up my home theater, and while I don't have a fancy set up yet, I do have new HDTV. I'm pretty happy with it overall, but the out-of-the-box geometry is not that great and is starting to bug me. I'm quite technically competent, and have done geometry adjustments on computer monitors, but not on TVs.

My question is, which calibration disc would be best? I'm considering Avia and DVE. DVE is obviously much cheaper (and newer, if that makes a difference?) But I've heard conflicting opinions on which is easier to use for someone who isn't necessarily familiar with the test patterns. DVE is apparently hard to navigate, but is that really a big deal?

Hi Diana,

Welcome to the Forum!

I'm surprised that you haven’t received a reply to such an easy question! You might try posting this question at our
Display Devices (TV/Projectors) Forum – maybe you’ll have better luck there. (I haven’t used either disc, so I can’t make a recommendation - sorry.)

Go with the DVE. The navigation curve is a little steep but not that bad. The only consirable documented problem with the disk is the SUB test tone.

It's inexpensive and has a lot of nice features including my favorite low freq. sweeps by channel to locate room rattle.

Get both. Amazon sells both in a package deal. Both offer features that you can use. That way you have no doubts.
