these two guys were argueing about which is better Dolby Digital or THX and i didnt even know THX was a thing like Dolby Digital??

whats the difference, is one better over the other?


and whats Digital D EX, Finding Nemo was the first movie that came up on my reciever as all the rest were Dolby Digital

Allen, they aren't the same thing. THX (the part that the two people arguing undoubtedly meant) is a processing system used on formats such as Dolby Digital or DTS.

A valid argument might be about which is preferable: Dolby Digital with THX processing engaged or Dolby Digital with THX processing disengaged. Discussing whether THX is better than Dolby Digital is meaningless.

Dolby Digital EX is used to extract a centre-surround channel (between the left and right surround channels) from movies that were recorded in Dolby Digital Surround EX. This format has been around for over four years, and there are quite a few soundtracks with a back-surround channel, but for various reasons most DVDs with these soundtracks do not contain the information needed to instruct the decoder that this is the case.
