Receiver DVD Combo opinion (1 Viewer)

I am looking for some advice. I have a small space under the television with room for 2 things that are not more than maybe 4-5 inches tall. Currently I have a dvd player there and a Dish Satellite/PVR next to it. I would like to have surround sound for movies but since I have very little space I found some small footprint Receiver/DVD player units. Some of the units they sell in best buy that come as packages only have 5x50 watts or something like that, but the JVC RXDV31SL or the RXDV5SL and the Panasonic PAN SAXR25S. These have 5x100 watts and seem to have all of the features of a decent receiver and dvd player. I know they are not gonna be as good as an expensive unit, but since i cannot afford something really expensive these look pretty good. I would like to know if anyone has an experience with one of these or has a suggestion for something else?
Thanks

I don’t have one of these combo units, but my son has a cheap one and the DVD player in his bit the dust in less than two years. So I’d say get the best one you can afford; pass on the budget models.

While space may be a concern, the problem with these combo units is that if one part breaks you are screwed. If you have a separate receiver and DVD player, if one dies you just replace one.

I will check out that unit there is a dealer in my area. But I would still like to know what anyone thinks about these models. The stats look comparable to the same price range receivers. To me it looks like these receivers are better than the in a box ones.
