At a recent event in Japan Panasonic showed off the its DVD-player/GameCube yet again. Most of the same information was reiterated, but a few new details have arisen. According to Game Watch the hybrid system will output video, but will not support progressive scan for movie watching. This was once thought to be the system's most valuable asset.
The SL-GC10, as its been labeled, does have an optical output and supports Dolby Digital and dts signals, and according to Panasonic the system can output digital game audio via the optical output if developers decide to support the feature. The unit also features a timer that let's parents determine when the unit can be used an for what purpose. Parents will have the ability to limit a child's playtime or movie time to certain times of the day. Youch, sorry kids -- that's one unfair addition.
There are still no plans to release a version of the unit here in the United States. Thanks to Game Watch for the pictures.

Doesn't look like any of the next gen systems will be paying the extra green to support progressive output. Disappointing...
