According to tvshowsondvd.com both are slated to be released by Columbia-TriStar in 2005 to tie in with the new films. I never really got into either of these shows, but DVD releases would be just the thing to get me into them.

I think I'd like Bewitched more. Anyone planning to buy either?

"Jeannie" is mine if they do season sets. Great show. The supporting cast really made this work.

The first season was seldom seen until fairly recently because it was B&W. Tony had a steady girlfriend that the writers wisely got rid of.

I am not as big a fan of "Bewitched" although the episodes with Dick York and Paul Lynde together are quite funny.

Thanks for the heads up Dane. I hadn't heard this yet.

I am beyond excited to hear that both of these shows are going to be released. Bewitched is one of my two favorite sitcoms of all time (the other being The Dick Van Dyke Show)!!!! I've loved it since I was a kid and never get tired of watching it again and again! As for Jeannie, I loved that show as a kid too, but hadn't really seen it until it began on TVland this past year. I've watched and taped almost all of them and really love it. There's endless debates among fans of both shows as to which they like more and about how Jeannie is seen as a rip-off of Bewitched, but I really love both of them. BW will always be my favorite and I do feel it's a better show because it's more than just a cute sitcom, but IDOJ has a great slapstick style of it's own. Aside from not wanting to have to wait until 2005, my real concern will be how these shows are released by Columbia Tristar--I'd love to see them get the Dick Van Dyke Show treatment and be a really great package--but seeing some of their other releases of tv shows, I'm not sure what to expect. Anyway, as you can see I am very excited by the news!

Great news! I would get both of these in a heartbeat if the price is right. These were two of my favorite shows as a kid. Haven't seen them in a long while though, since we haven't had cable for years. I like IDOJ more, but both are great shows. Thanks for the heads up.

Frankly it came as a surprise to me that Gord had posted those news items last night; I didn't know he'd posted that news until I read about it here!

But I wasn't surprised that he looked into it, because about a week ago a news tipster who only ID'ed himself as "David" sent along info that Amazon.co.jp had started listing Bewitched as a Japanese R2 NTSC release on 12/19/2003! You need a translator to read anything, so I can't make anything of that page. But the cover art speaks for itself really:

I have no idea how that Japanese release will end up looking here in America as an R1 release. I'm sure that, unless Columbia changes their model for R1 releases of TV Seasons, we'll see more stuff released in the vein of Forever Knight, Married With Children, Charlie's Angels, or Sanford & Son.

That is great to know that it is at least on the planning stages (figured it would arrive with the new movie anyway...speaking of Bewitched here).

I am a major Bewitched fan, but can't say the same for Jeannie. It is kinda like in the same vain how I love and adore Laverne and Shirley but have a deep hatred for Happy Days.

Will gladly pick up the entire run of the series.

Several people at one of the Bewitched sites I visit have translated the info on the Japanese release. It's the first season of the show and the episodes have all been colorized! I really hope they are released here in their original black and white--I wouldn't even want to buy it if they're colorized!! I know I've kind of already started expecting the worst as far as how it will be put together--Bewitched had somewhere around 36 episodes in it's first season--I'd really hate to see all those episodes on three discs! But 2005 is far enough away so who knows, hopefully this will be a great package right?? Then we can all start worrying about whether all 8 seasons will be released!!

(Wonder what "Yagga Zoo-zee" sounds like in Japanese?? )

Both these shows are potential purchases. As for colorized or not, my preference would be for both to be available on the same set, though I doubt that will happen.

I might be interested in bewitched, I liked that show as a kid, but a DVD release might be what I need to rekindle that interested which has since faded. I never really cared much for M*A*S*H or Friends until they came out on DVD.

I never knew a Bewitched movie was in the planning stages. I did however read a blurb in TV Guide about the Jeannie movie (apparently Jessica Simpson is being considered for Jeannie, as bad as that may sound. My vote would go to Lisa Kudrow)

I would be interested in Jeannie boxsets if I had some extra cash lying around.
