Just to get an idea of what equipment we have in our computers and if it is used for HTPC or not to the benefit of others visiting this area.

I'll start. I don't use my PC as a HTPC and I have the following...

- AMD XP2500+ processor
- ASUS motherboard w 300W p/s
- ATI Radeon 9200 SE 128Mb
- 40Gb & 30Gb Maxtor hard drives (primary and backup)
- 256 Mb DDR 333 memory
- 52x cdr
- 12x dvd (48x cd) (LG)
- 56K modem (no high speed here)
- Misc items (canon scanner, HP 920 printer, IBM rapid access KB, Infinity stereo speakers & Quest 8" 100W sub)

Laptop-
2 ghz P4
geforce 4 440 go (it's like a 4 mx, basically)
1 gig ram
60 gig hdd

As well as being my constant companion through thick and thin, it also houses all my mp3s and archived tv shows. It has a nifty breakout box so I can watch all my episodes of various things on tv.

Desktop
2.06 ghz Athlon XP 333
Gigabyte 7NNXP Motherboard
1 gig good corsair ram
ATI Radeon 9600
120 gig seagate 7200.7 sata

All I really use this for is playing newer games.

Ooohhhh! A chance to brag! :)

HTPC used for DVD, PVR, remote control, and gaming:

- 2.4C 800Mhz FSB overclocked to 3.18Ghz (1080 Mhz FSB)
- Zalman CPU cooler
- Asus P4P800 Deluxe MB
- 512MB Samsung PC3200 (warning: never get this memory)
- 120Gig Seagate HD
- ATI Radeon 9800Pro All In Wonder - with Zalman GPU heatsink
- Hauppauge PVR-250 TV Tuner Card
- XCard/PDI card combo
- Toshiba DVD Player
- Kanam HT-100B home theater case.

If you take out the gaming component, you can drop the 9800Pro to a 9600 non pro, or even a 9000 (any fanless card is great in HT). The overclocking isn't necessary either, unless you're like me and are asking a lot from Dscaler.

Martin.

Dell Dimension XPS T450 :)

P3 450 MHz
384 MB RAM
9GB HD
Radeon VE (dual head) video adapter
17" monitor and a 15" monitor (now with extra geometry problems)

This was my thesis-writing computer for finishing grad school. After uninstalling Mathematica, Matlab, Visual C, etc. I realized I don't need much computer horsepower these days.

And since Half-Life 2 is delayed until next year, I can postpone an upgrade even longer :)

Commodore 64 with not one, but TWO 5 1/4 floppy drives, a Commodore 1902 monitor, and a super-duper 300 baud modem. I also have a pair of original Atari joysticks and an Epson dot matrix printer. You ought to see HTF at 320x200 resolution with 16 colors. Yowza!!!! ;)
