Ok, I did do a search, but just can't seem to find what I'm looking for...

A pal of mine wants to buy a DVD player and a 27" TV. What do we look for in a TV that will take advantage of a progressive scan DVD player? We're looking at the sub $100 pannies, just don't know what type of TV to get. My pal is dirt poor so basically we're going for the cheapest thing that will display progressive scan.

Thanks.

You do, and $100 won't get you there. Expect to pay at least $500 for a 480p-capable display.

I meant a sub $100 pannie DVD player, not the TV.

So, pretty much, if you don't have an HDTV (480p capable) there's no point in getting a progressive scan DVD player?

Thanks y'all.

While there are no advantages to a prog-scan machine with an interlaced-only display, purchasing one assures future compatibility. Only, in the meantime, use its interlaced output.
