I can't believe this SE is going to be two discs, this is great! Check out the specs at TDB:

At long last, we've got a look at the DVD cover artwork for Columbia TriStar's upcoming 2-disc Monty Python and the Holy Grail: Special Edition DVD. On it you'll get:
  • A brand new high-definition, anamorphic widescreen film transfer "with pink frilly edges"
  • The soundtrack in "glorious 5.1 Dolby Digital"
  • Subtitles in English, French and Spanish, subtitles "for people who don't like the film" (you get the text from Shakespeare's Henry IV instead)
  • An "on-screen screenplay" feature which lets you read the screenplay as you watch the film
  • Enlightening commentary by Terry Gilliam and Terry Jones (plus general complaints and back-biting by John Cleese, Eric Idle and Michael Palin)
  • "extraordinary animated menus with very loud 5.1 Dolby Digital sound"
  • An exciting Follow the Killer Rabbit feature
  • An additional "mono soundtrack in glorious old fashioned mono"
  • An extra 24 seconds of film "absolutely free".

And that's just on Disc One.

    Disc Two gives you:
  • "Three Mindless Sing-Alongs"
  • The Quest for the Holy Grail Locations documentary
  • The How to Use Your Coconuts educational film
  • Monty Python and the Holy Grail in Japanese (with English subtitles)
  • The On Location with the Pythons 1974 BBC Film Night report,
  • An interactive cast directory
  • Tons of Terry Gilliam's original sketches
  • Behind-the-scenes photos
  • "a load of rubbish" mystery items
  • Unused ideas and other material
  • Trailers and weblinks.
The film will be the 21st Anniversary Edition created in 1996 for a U.K. video release (and which was restored for U.S. theatrical release this year), which includes 24 seconds of previously unseen footage. Added bits feature more lines from Zoot (Carol Cleveland) in Castle Anthrax, reaction shots of a crowd yelling "Get on with it!" and God shouting the same phrase. Street date is October 23rd. SRP will be $29.95.

Love the "subtitles for those who don't like the film"!

-Tom

Wow! I was just burst out laughing when i was reading just the features alone, reading them in my head with an English accent.

I'm surprised at:
Quote:
Monty Python and the Holy Grail in Japanese (with English subtitles)

It's kind of funny because I was introduced to this film by my g/f, who was born and raised in Japan and came over to the States 6 years ago. Now we can watch it in Japanese...awesome!

This is one of my highly anticipated DVDs, along with SW Ep1 and the Godfather Trilogy...

Bring me a shrubber!

I wonder if the commentary will be the same from the Criterion Laserdisc? If so, it is hilarious. Man, I can't wait for this.

Thank goodness those bottom-wiping sons-of-a-window-dresser at WB aren't involved here.

I am beyond ready for this.

If you haven't heard the excerpts of the Japanese release from Criterion on Laserdisc years ago, you are in for a treat, since much gets lost in the translation:

- "Go and tell you master we are following God's orders to find a sacred object. If you provide lodging for the night and meals, we will allow you to join our quest for the sacred wine glass."

- "I can ask my master but it's probably just a waste of time because we already have one."

- "Are you sure you already have one?"

- "Yes, we really have one." ("We lied.")

- "I see. Then we would like to see it."

- "Don't joke around. I'm not going to show it to some English pigs."

- "Who the hell are you?"

- "I'm French. Can't you tell from this distinguished face, you stupid English King?"

- "If you don't show us your sacred wine glass, we shall use force to enter your castle."

- "It's no use for you to threaten us you English pigs. Just leave immediately and go through some garbage. That would serve you right. If you come any closer, I'll throw some booger on you. King Arthur, come here you airhead."

and so on... Posted Image
