I contacted Warner Brothers. I asked them if Cats & Dogs dvd will be pan & scam only. The lady said she was not sure. I told her that I would not be purchasing it now. I also asked about Willy Wonka. She said she was well aware of the complaints about Wonka. So hopefully, this will not stand.
My 2 daughters(6 & 3 years old) have no problem watching widescreen movies with "the black bars". How can a company that is suppose to be so into dvd, be so ignorant. To be fair I have no problem if they want to release pan & scam movies. But, don't stop releasing movies in widescreen also. Nice way to alienate a portion of the consumer market.

We must get the 16x9 HDTV conversion going - that is the issue. I understand the networks and manufacturers have a mandate but the distribution fols do not. (cable).

Rubbish. They should not be listening to the majority of people, but the majority of DVD buyers. Big difference. Maybe J6P wants P&S, but how many DVDs does he actually own? 4 or 5? We want OAR. How many titles do we own? 100? 200? 300? more? Even if J6P outnumbers us 50 to 1, they will still make more money in the long run catering to us instead of him.

What is wrong with selling J6P the VHS edition? Make it the only way to get the film in P&S. If he doesn't care about OAR, he doesn't care about Dolby digital etc.

I have to respectfully disagree with you here. You've got it backwards. The WB's of the world want J6P - the guy with 5 DVDs - to buy MORE! WB already knows they've got us! Marketing is about expanding your cusotmer base. That is EXACTLY what WB is attempting here.
Think about, why would WB care? They'l sell these discs and then when 16x9 becomes commonplace for J6P, WB sells them the new improved anamorphic widescreen version.
